Who here rocks a single 15?

I love this combination I've come up with from my various cabinets and heads. My Music Man HD 150 paired with my Mesa Powerhouse Traditional 115. I can get tones that are brash and in your face to mellow tube thump. With things being quiet during shut down I experimented a lot in search of new tones with the equipment that I have on hand. This combination is one of the winners and it came with me on the first post-shutdown gig last weekend for a drums, bass, guitar trio blues gig.

nice. One of my favorite “winners” is an ABM500 into a musicman 115RH.

Hey I’d love to hear more of your thoughts on the cab volume & tone. Any farting out on the super low end? Looks like you roll with the casters on. Any benefit from not coupling with the floor/stage?

I can’t open mine up volume-wise in my townhome. To do so would invite certain scorn and eviction. Lordy can’t wait till we can gig safely again!

Maybe one positive will be if we are all spread out over greater distances, we can play louder to cover the space!

So finally, a brief gig report. I ran straight in and it was wonderful. Actually feeling heft and weight on the open G string is a bit of a revelation and definitely helped not having to dig in. The Fender / GK / Mesa is a winner for now.

I have another gig in two weeks that I plan to use this same rig. I need to break out the 5 string (and likely the HPF) and give it a go ... got some of those gigs on the books for end of summer, early fall good lord willin’.

So I just had the opportunity to perform for 2 receptions this weekend - both outdoors and quite distanced & paired down guest lists.

Being outdoors and farther away from the people allowed me to turn up and dig in. So the GK + Mesa trad PH 15 is really a thing of beauty. So much thick low end and tons of volume.

So after lugging around the cab a bit, I’m thinking about a Neo replacement to help with the weight and maybe change the character of the voicing a bit. Maybe something a little more modern or scooped sounding.

Any encouraging words on something like the Eminence Kapplite or Faital neo woofers?

I think the Mesa Subway 115 uses the Faital neo driver... not 100% sure but I think that's correct. I have one and absolutely love it. It has become my #1 cab, and I look forward to adding some brothersand sisters for it as well.

I won't say it is "scooped", however. Actually, I think for a 115 it provides more in the upper-mid department than one might traditionally expect. Not so say that it's "middy" at all, but that it is much more accurate than 115s of yore. It will give you back whatever you send it. To me, that is actually more "modern" than a scooped profile, but opinions and elbows, amirite? Haha! A tweak of the EQ knobs on your amp or bass will scoop whatever you don't want, and the cab will faithfully oblige.

Anywho, I didn't read all the backstory here, but if you haven't tried a Subway 115, I think you may be pleasantly surprised with the tone, and I KNOW you'll be happy with the light weight! The price is the only downside, and though I was hesitant to buy at first, I am happy that I did. No ragerts!

edit to add: I just realized that maybe you meant you wanted to just swap out the driver, not buy a cab designed with the speakers you mentioned... hm... in that case, I don't know. Maybe AgedHorse will see this and advise if the newer Faital will work well in your existing powerhouse cab. I have a feeling it may not be ideal.

Fender Pro Neo 15 is a great cab by all accounts, and fairly light? I’m kind of watching out for one to use with my Fender Studio Bass head. I’ve tried the 410 and it was gorgeous.

I got 2 of the early ones that were "under 50lbs " or "45lbs" (either one, kain't remember) , not long after Fender apparently used a heavier wood, and they were 55lb or so.
Yeah, I like em. They sound especially good with the tube amps, and also with the Aguilar TH500, perhaps unsurprisingly

I went through 15 pages of replies and didn't see an Acoustic B100, so here's mine. It's an early one with the 15" - I think they went to 12" with the 2nd version. This was an $80 craigslist buy.

Not sure I can say I really rock it since I'm just learning to play at home. But it's all I have and I think good enough to learn and practice. Here it is with my only electric bass, my trusty BB434.

My last band was Americana, but most of the time I used a 215 on stage. It was total overkill, but fun. I snagged an old Peavey 115 and threw a Eminence Delta in it to have a similar sound with more portability. Ended up being my main rehearsal, recording, and travel cab the last couple years. With the VB2 its just about perfect for me.

The Mesa 15” cab is awesome. I like Traynor too! Good stuff. I’m pretty much all about the 15” cabs - I like the fat, full, spacious sound.
