who only uses 1 pedal?

I run my basses thru a pj bass buddy direct to pa, with no pedals or effects. Have contemplated a chorus pedal or envelope filter for solos but haven't really investigated what's hot.

The premise of this thread is flawed.
Pedals are beneficial when they "serve the song." While I usually have just a tuner between my bass and amp, occasionally I use a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes pedal if a song needs some dirt. Occasionally I use a Team Awesome Fuzz Machine pedal when a song needs fuzz. And so forth. The use of pedals is not a cosmic flaw when a bassist chooses to use them effectively. Conversely, it's narrow minded when a bassist says "You won't find me using a pedal!" as some sort of religious boast to prove pedals are bad.
Pedals are good when they make a song sound better; pedals are bad when they make a song sound worse. It's no different than saying a P-bass is "better" than a Jazz bass. All silliness if you ask me!

I got a Bass Big Muff. Use it for my guitar as well. Don't think I'd want anything else other than a DI/OD like an MXR or Sans Amp.
I only have one pedal, the Wounded Paw Attack Goat Bass Fuzz. Might add a Preamp/DI down the road. Possibly something with a Tube.
I can count my pedals on the fingers of zero hands. Though I am going to put together a compressor when I get around to it.
I can't fully agree although I understand the point you're making.
Sometimes fooling about with pedals while jamming will spark new ideas you wouldn't have had without those pedals, so having them does serve a purpose other then just "needing" them for a certain song.
On topic: I have a compressor that is always on to make my bass blend better in the total mix, and for most stuff I play that is all I need.
I absolutely LOVE having more pedals though so usually there's also a bass overdrive with EQ (B7K Ultra), Vintage Microtubes OD, TremoLo, Pitchfork and a Bass wowee wah to have fun with. Especially when playing with a pick having a wah pedal (no autowah!) is just awesome.

I did just have a tuner and OD on my board... then I got a Fishman Fission and that led to me adding a Zoom G3 for the guitar tone. Looking at adding an EQ on the bass side now and maybe a chorus.....
