Who plugs straight in? What do you use?

I plugin straight... into my tuner, octave, flange, distortion, wah and distortion. Each pedal is plugged straight into the next one, except for the last one - that one is plugged in straight to the amp.

Does this count?

A P-bass or a Jazz bass into whatever amp I'm using. The actual set up doesn't really matter too much since I'm always aiming for "my sound." Fortunately I don't need effects to get it.

OK my last gig I used a jazz bass into a Peavey tour 450 into an ashdown 4x10.

I tried pretty much every effect out there and though I like them all, I found they make it hard to come out in the mix. Sitting well in the mix can be a challenge when fighting acoustics sometimes so I don't need the added challenge of adding effects.

If you want to be accused of having great tone!!!!!!! Play the same notes that the drummer plays on his bass drum.

No gadgets for me. Just plug my bass in the amp. '87 Jazz Bass Special or '01 American Jazz into Little Mark III with Traveler 151P cab, or into my Markbass CMD 121H combo. Same deal in days of yore, just different amps/cabs/combos. I used to use a chorus pedal once in awhile, but that was 20 years ago.

Bass ---> Amp ---> Speakers, that's it. Effects can be fun to goof around with but I've never had a real use for them for live gigging. They always end up sound too different or "artificial" when compared to straight into the amp.....to me. Never needed more than a little pocket tuner either, basses hold tune for quite a while. I'll check it again in an hour or so, or between sets if you gig that way but rarely have to adjust it once the strings are settled in. Heck, you can pick one up after a week and it's still damn close.

my pedalboard was giving me issues at the gig I played last night so I went straight in. For me that was:

Fender J ==> EBS ValveDrive preamp ==> GB Shuttle 6.0 ==> Schroeder 212.

I don't consider the EBS ValveDrive a pedal as such, although it's in pedal form. I consider it a preamp and it sits on top of the cab with the Shuttle.
