Who's got Halo 2?

Okay, I finished the game yesterday:

All I can say is lame ending, Lame Ending, LAME ENDING!! Totally lame cliffhanger ending. Plus I think that the actualy time in the game is a LOT less than in in the first game. I think I'm going to time a whole run-through and see ho long it takes.

HALO 3 better not take another 3 years, or Bungie is going to get torn down.

Rock on
Eric

Ugh. I hope against hope that you are wrong. But you may be right. I am typing with my claw-hand after spending five marathon hours playing head to head. Man, does it get me pissed off when I get outsmarted. I think I've got a nice quiet hole to lurk in and WHAM the other guy comes dropping out of the ceiling with the sword.

As far as I can tell, head to head is the most fun/strategic way to play online. The group melee's amount to a senseless deathfest--can't even figure out where you are before it's kill or be killed.

i read somewhere (EGM maybe) that halo 3 will be released at xbox 2 launch.

and i definitely agree, the more people playing = the less skill thats involved. i prefer games with 6 or less people, teams or free for all. one on one is a blast.

In group melee you just have to kill more than you get killed... shoot for the head, try to get 2 or more kills before you die. Some of the larger maps (Colossus) give you more time to collect the second weapon of choice... but the downside is, frustration can set in if you can't find targets fast enough.

After doing rumble pit exclusively so far, I'm going to try team skirmish next.

Question for the group:

My LAN mates are wondering if we could all connect as a party via Xbox Live from one location. Would be 8 maximum, and two of us would have Xbox Live subscriptions, but we'd be using four machines... and of course there would be just one broadband connection. Is this do-able?

Dual Magnums = Killing power like you wouldnt believe. Sure, it doesnt carry much ammo, but nothing short of the sword/shotty can stop it at close range. Just rip on the triggers.

As for the annoying combo of buttons to change right-hand guns while dual-wielding, all you have to do is press x.... not hard at all, and certainly not annoying.

Personally, I like the weapons sooo much more, and guns like the sentinel beamer are awesome if you know how to use them.

Thanks for the tips!

Sure you can. I've got RoadRunner, which connects to an 8-port switch, which runs "in wall" connects throught out the house. Works great.

Room A, Kid 4 types away frantically IM'ing everyone
Room B, Kid 2 surfs for the answers to homework
Room C, Kid 1 & 3 play H2 on XBL, while I'm bearsharing some mpg's that I want to learn...

If you're gonna spend money tho, don't just settle for a hub... get a switch!

You're making the same point I did. You can't get away with one pistol (any of them). You MUST tote a pair. Which means that if circumstances leave you with no choice but pistols, you can forget about grenades.

It is not hard. But the control scheme IS annoying.

OK, boys. Time to talk tactics.

Everytime I play head to head and the sword is an available weapon, it becomes a major factor in the gameplay. How come every time I get it and try to kill the other guy, I fail. But when the other player has it, they seem able to wax me from across the room with these intimidating lunges.

Is there a way to use the sword to maximum effectiveness? Does it matter whether I use the B button or the right trigger to initiate the attack? And IS there some sort of lunge move or does it just seem like these opponents are barrelling down on me like a freight train?

If your targeting reticule turns red, you have a "lock" with the sword and can get a kill from surprisingly long range (for melee). I believe you need to keep a bead on your opponent, because they can dodge away.

I read in one article that the lock occurs a fraction of a second before the reticule turns red. So, I think that's how some of these guys are so good.

I often miss even when I have the lock. Perhaps I've set my controller sensitivity too high. Or maybe my problem is that I don't have the video game reflexes I did when I was a third of my age. :rollno:

Thanks, man!

We have the LAN pack with hub, but the guy who throws the LAN parties will definitely get a router or switch once he gets Xbox Live.

So... really possible that 8 people can play at once over the one connection with just one or two Xbox Live subscriptions? That's cool. I think I did see somewhere that one Xbox Live subscriber could have a number of guests playing from his location, but I didn't know what the limits would be. I guess we'll find out if there are bandwidth issues.

If we do get this set up, it'll be cool.

I know for one thing that you can't bring friends into a rated clan match. But you can have them in training.

OK, as of this evening I will have sent clan invites to all the gamertags in this thread. This clan is only 4 days old and we've got about 30 people already, so step to if you're interested. Remember to change your emblem to a number two (any color scheme) before you join a rated match (so we don't have to wait for you to go back and change it).

See you soon!
