Who's got the Perfect Rhythm?

Scored a 0. Drummer alter-ego took over. Couldn't figure out how to start it. Obsessed over the cool fills I was going to use. Fill fantasies kept getting interrupted by dang squirrels outside the window. Squirrels are now dead.

1st attempt - 881

893 first try. And always was anticipating the beat by just a little. First few times after the track dropped out I was off, trying to find the beat but then I got it and just rolled with it. The light up shapes were distracting for me. When I was getting tired and ready to quit it started the countdown.

Hardy har har.

First attempt: if that had been my SAT score, they'd have sent me back to 3rd grade.

Subsequent attempts: tons better, then I started playing around with subdividing the beat in my head. 8ths was not a big jump over 1, 2, 3, 4, but 16ths was a huge improvement. There were a whole bunch right on the line, and the ones that were off were narrowly mixed instead of reliably late. I then tried thinking triplets, and this didn't work well. Results still mixed early/late, but way wider range than the 16ths.

All that, and I still maxed out at 871. I'll try again when I'm fresher; I'm absolutely DONE right now.

Somewhat sobering that I tend to be late. I also am a former tuba player, and I thought I knew enough to be on top of the beat and not dragging everybody backward with me. Somewhere, something went very wrong.

903 using alternate striking with RH, as you would play finger-style...

and 892 tapping with LH fingers Stick style. Interesting is the balanced variation either side of plumb, which looks like a nice swing, so I'm not too disappointed.

It is a shame the average tempo you maintain is not compared to the test tempo - holding average over a few bars is probably as important as holding the groove.
