Who's Overrated? Who's Underrated?

Wooten's not overrated, but his ratedness is for the wrong reasons. He can play a normal bass line just fine, but no one's going to call up victor wooten if they just need someome to put down a basic groove, are they? Hence people think he's all wank and no substance when he's probably better than everyone reading this thread in all areas

Saw The Damned at The Agincourt in Camberly (UK) this evening and the bass player Stu West was really good, very tight and powerful but with some really nice lines which I have not heard him play before, well done Stu, the rest of the band was excellent too but they dont get much credit on a bass site :D

I so completely agree, Paul Slack is in his own category of musician. Say, do you happen to have any idea how it is he gets his signal to split into the multiple octave-ups and -downs like that? Because it seems he has some kind of frequency dependent signal splitter or something like that... I don't know, haven't been able to determine if anything like that even exists. I know he uses a boss OC3 for the octave down half of his signal and gets the higher notes out of a PS3. I still can't figure it out.

People are just saying Wooten is overated because of his popularity and how well known he is, but why do you think that is? because in my opinion hes one of the best bassist of our time. Songs like "Sometimes I Laugh" and "The Vision" are the most beautiful things iv hear from a bass. I also met him and he is so knowledgable about music and i dont mean theory wise just music in general, and his still one of the most humble people iv ever met.

But thats just a young 16 year olds opinion.

+1 Deacon was one of the finest groovemen ever. Usually nothing complex or technical, but that's not what makes a groove. Can we say "Killer Queen"?
