There are so many great bassists out there but for me when I first picked up the bass it was the punk guys like Mike Dirnt, Dee Dee Ramone, Paul Simonon, etc.

But my favorite of all time is FLEA!!! He has the energy, the deep spiritual connection with his instrument, the great feel, and the spontaneous improvisation. Then there's Tim Commerford, Jeff Ament, Krist Novoselic, Tim Ward, and Nick Harmer.

Paul Simonon. The clash was one of the first bands I really got into. Paul smashing his bass on the cover of London Calling my have subconsciously pushed me toward bass.

the bassist who got me in to playing was.....harvey bainbridge of hawkwind the first time i heard live 79...the sound of his bass i wanted to play bass!!but others include....

and of course....Lemmy....in hawkwind such a driving bass sound....pre ricky too!! but now hes quite a lazy player!!

i dont stray to far from my path,but my enjoyment is not the player but the sound they make take frankie valli "the night" i think that is an awsome bass line, ilove bass lines and watch bass players,im not a great player,but im passionate bout bass!

Probably the guy most responsible for me playing bass today is the death metal fretless god, Steve DiGiorgio. Heard him playing on Death's "The Philosopher," and was blown away. He also made me want to play fretless.

Duncan Coutts from Our Lady Peace. The bass intro from the song Naveed was what made me first want to pick up a bass. When i finally did, my friend, a guitar player, was able to figure out the riff and teach me in literally less than 5 minutes... i was at once both dissappointed at how simple it actually was, and thrilled that i was able to play it.
