Mike Porcarro of TOTO and Richard Bona! Hands down Bona is one of the best in the world in my book check him out on youtube not only an amazing groove man, but melts your face with his melodic improv and can sing like no other, in his native language from cameroon while he's playing bass mind you. And mike cause it's TOTO and he lays the pocket down fat! and always keeps it tasty!

I've been at it for a long time, and I've had many favorites, but the first name that comes to me right now is Jack Bruce.

Edit: I just read through this whole thread and discovered that I wrote something last summer... and I had the same response then: Jack Bruce.

I would have to say it's a tie between Jason Newsted and James Jamerson. I know, two totally different bass players but their in my top 2.
