Michael Anthony - serve the song and interesting little fills
Marshall Grant (Johnny Cash) - drive the song!

I'm very much in the bass is part of the rhythm section camp and enjoy bass playing in that style.

I would expect Geddy Lee, Jaco, Les, Flea, etc. to be popular responses to this thread and don't get me wrong they are all awesome bass players and influences. However, I would say Krist Novoselic. He is a very talented player and I just always loved his tones. His stage presence was a fun one too all the way from knocking himself out to the infamous purple pants. :smug: There are ton's more, it's hard to narrow it down to strictly one.

I started out with Chris of Muse being my favorite bassist (First rock band I ever got into)

But then I heard Flea on SA and BSSM, that changed everything for me. Then later I discovered Justin Chancellor of Tool and Arif Mirabdolbaghi of Protest The Hero.

Those 4 guys are my total bass heroes

Glenn Hughes had the most influence on my playing back when the band I was in, covered almost the entire first album he did with Trapeze.
Recently because were doing a bunch of Chicago tunes; Cetera pre-David Foster days

Geezer Butler - Black Sabbath (the man, the influence, the legend!)
Jason Newsted - Metallica
David Ellefson - Megadeth (ironically, I never really paid much attention to his works until the last few years during his absence from the band)
Rachel Bolan - Skid Row
Jerry Dixon - Warrant (way overrated as a bass-player)
Adam Deuce - Machine Head
Nikki Sixx - Motley Crue

Bob Daisley, (Ozzy's on again/off again bassist, 1979-1991), surprisingly no previous mention. Check out the original "Blizzard" and "Diary" especially.

Rudy Sarzo...try not to laugh. Not so much with Quiet Riot, rather Ozzy's "Speak of the Devil", he nailed Geezer's bass lines IMO, which brings me to: Geezer himself.
