Why all the Tal smack talk?

Like 'Gordon of Eden' and 'Jerry' said- it's not Colaiuta on her album, its Keith Carlock! And he does a fine job I must add. She also played with Wayne Krantz, Hiram Bullock and the Allman Brothers Band waaay before she even met Jeff, Chick or Vinnie. Vinnie may have been a part of her meeting Jeff, and I know they've collaborated together in other projects, but he can't make her play the bass the way she does! She's also made some great strides on her own which have nothing to do with Jeff or Vinnie (recorded with Prince, sat in with The Roots on Jimmy Fallon, etc.)

Willgroove2, I congratulate you on getting to play such great gigs at a young age, but how does that take away from Tal's achievements? I think people believe she's fantastic no matter how old she is/was, and I hope people feel the same about your playing now too! If you're good, you're good, right?
Regarding Chick Corea calling her back, first of all, just getting that gig in the first place is an amazing accomplishment at any age. Secondly, Jeff Beck, the Allman Brothers, and Wayne Krantz all invited her back to perform with them again, so what makes you think that Chick won't give her a ring again? And if he doesn't call her back, does that really prove anything when others ARE calling her back?

Larry, Jaco and Stanley, of course!! John Paul Jones, Rocco, Chris Squire, Dave Hope, etc., etc.
Marcus not so much, we're the same age.
Bottom line is Tal is getting the HIGH degree of publicity because she's young and female. She's a good young bassist, as are many others.
That doesn't take anything away from her, it's just the reality. More power to her if that's what she wants, I haven't met her so I don't know.
Jaco was never interviewed on a mainstream TV program when he first hit 'the scene', think about that for a moment......

i like her, nice looks, nice playing. Yet I am not too wild on her as the bass sound is too sterile for me, though I must admit that I only know the stuff she did with Jeff Beck. But definitely a good player.

I rarely talk about what I do or have done on this forum because that's not why I participate and to be frank being on TB is not going to get me any gig's. I just love the bass and music and always want to learn more about it. The point that I was making was that the biggest difference about Tal's success is her gender, not the fact that she is young because many many people ,including myself, have had success at a young age. And as far as her playing with Wayne Krantz and the Allman brothers way before she met Vinnie or chick,I don't think that's accurate but i could be wrong.

The point i want to make is every few years a young person comes along and get's opportunity's with established artist,it's the nature of the game. The main difference now is with the level of media convergence,more people are going to find out about someone quicker.

i wont dispute that she has talent.. but look at it from a business perspective.. they're gonna call on her to play with them because she's young and female.. thats gonna get them free publicity..

any business man would would pass up a little bit of talent to make more money.. name of the game unfortunately...

u could go into an interview be perfect for the job and get passed over cuz someone with a little bit less talent had more personality, looks, whatever.... thats life..

not saying thats what happened here.. i'm just saying its a very real possibility

I'm going to tell you what,there is something to be said about enthusiasm,almost every review of Tal's playing has mentioned the joy she show's at playing. People gravitate toward that and there a old saying "your attitude determines your altitude"

I already know a lot of the Chicago Area guys who post here so any gig's have came from real life relationships but who knows

She has the total package period.
She can play circles around about 99% of us here, AND she happens to be a woman, AND she's easy on the eyes, AND she's young.
Take out the young part for a second...now, how come this subject has NEVER (at least that I've seen) come up about Rhonda Smith????

Point of Fact - Mozart's first symphony was written at the age of .... eight. Get your brain around that. Tal's playing is a testament to tastefulness and groove. I'll be fine if I never hear another wanking bassist showing off her/his chops, meanwhile sacrificing beauty and vibe.
Remember what Hindemith said: virtuosity begets only virtuosity.

...and according to most of the ones I've heard, a couple of great gigs.

We just have to admit that she got talent. She got what it takes to play with Jeff Beck and Chick Corea and those big names.

If its true that she's hired because she's young and a female, well probably a lot of people think that she should be given a chance to play with those big musicians because she has got BIG potential. Why not let a bird learn how to fly? (yet she already knew how to fly and probably learning tricks :D)

Okay, you can play like her, and probably you're better than her. But don't we get something that someone should sometimes? :)

Mind the grammar though.
