Why are old Peaveys so cheap?

Works best when pointed at people like maturanesa !

If you're comparing your custom neck-through bass to an instrument that cost a fraction as much to manufacture, perhaps it isn't better constructed.

I just said "that Peavey Sarzo is not a high end neck through bass", and the comparison i made was "Fodera and Warwick" (high end neck throughs). Now... Do you think that Peavey is better constructed than Warwick and Fodera?

I had a Peavey Forum that was USA made and yes, weighed a bit. Great bass but it just wasn't what I wanted. Picked up a Milestone IV, plywood body and all, and I really dig it. It needs new electronics, but the pup is hot, the neck is fantastic, and it is super light. Korean or USA, I think Peavey's are pretty nifty.

If you are referring to my red one, THANK YOU !

That is one of my favorite pictures of it, here is a detail shot of the bone nut I had installed.

That Sarzo is sexy as hell! Where can you find a neck through bass with an ebony board, mother of pearl inlays, and purple heart stringers from any other production company?

And on top of that, a Sarzo plays like a dream. You really don't have to spend a ton of money to get a great bass.

Actually, you said that Peaveys weren't well-constructed because the block exceeded the neck width instead of matching it, which is ridiculous. When we're talking about Peavey basses that are more than 20 years old, attacking build quality seems a poor choice on your part.

When you pay more for hand-picked wood, custom features, someone's time to hand-build, one-off components, hand-built electronics, hand-finishing, etc, you're choosing to pay for time that Peavey has cut out with their manufacturing processes and parts sourcing. Again, all this expense takes place long before you have any discussion of quality.

You're welcome to explain how Fodera uses better wood glue than Peavey does, or how a person can laminate wood better than a machine can.

I have a Peavey strat-type guitar, made in Indonesia with a plywood body and it's an absolutely amazing guitar before price even enters into the conversation. The neck is astoundingly good on it. It's the only instrument I've bought for less than 500 dollars that needed absolutely no fret work whatsoever.

I'd put these neck throughs up against any custom builder out there as far quality of construction, durability, playability, fit and finish. Saying the width of the neck through at the body is a sign of low quality is rubbish. You are confusing price with quality and they are not always related.

Beautiful!!!

Why on earth would anyone think the width of the thru-neck has anything to do with higher quality? For all we know, it may even be easier to build them wider at the butt end.

Check out the basses on this Alembic page. Obviously they are clueless about quality.

A high end neck-through should have the block that crosses the body with the same width as the neck (or the continuation of the neck lines). That looks like a cheap neck through (the peavey). It should be like this:

He should probably goto the Luthier's page and tell them that they are doing cheaply. If you look at all the work they post more than half have different widths. Ridiculous.

MECH - Your collection is amazing. I love that red 5'er that has the old school Peavey knobs on it. It's real pretty.

To quote Rudy Sarzo, "When I pick up a Peavey is just feels like home."

I feel 100% the same way. Just how there are different brands of shoes for different feet, Peavey feels like they were made just for me !
