Why do guitarists get all the cool looking gear?

As an offshoot of the "do you rule out amps based on looks" thread - why do you think Guitarists get all the cool looking gear like this:

While us bass players get stuff like this:

and this:

and this:

Mind you, I'm not saying that all bass gear (or even the stuff above) is horrible and ugly - it just seems to me that the designs are about 100% more boring than what's available in the guitar world.

What do you think?

i play plexiglas basses. dont get much cooler than that!!!! 65amps, i think is coming out with bass gear.

I think everything you posted is ugly, except maybe the Vox, lol.

I like the modern look though (Eden, Genz, SWR), and I think bass stuff nails that 100 times better than guitar stuff. Probably because modernized guitar amps generally aren't good...

If that stuff looks good to you, then maybe you're a guitarist

Becasue guitaristst are shallow and vapid. They think how an amp looks actually matters in any way. By nature, they don't understand anything about music so it's all about image.

Meh. It is only cooler if you like vintage-look amps. If you are like me and like more modern styled stuff, amps like this:

I think they get a smaller variety TBH.

Most guitar gear, that is halfway decent,, is in the realm of valves.

We have countless great valve amps, we also have conventional SS amps, and class D amps.

When was the last time you heard a great sounding 600 watt guitar tone from a box weighing in at under 5lbs

Most guitar stuff also sticks to 12" speakers, but with bass there is a wide variety from 4" to 21" !

the brian may signature vox has the same design. some would argue he had one of the "best" tones in rock. all the EQ knobs in the world wont make a junky circuit (or bad player) sound better. tone comes from the hands anyway

I own one, and tone IS in the hands. A good speaker, and a tube screamer makes that thing sing!

I also own one of those. Amazing amps, and they do look cool.

Funny you should being that up. The 5 watt class A tube amp Epiphone is one of the best classic sounding tone generators out there. There is a school of thought that says good tone starts with a clean signal path.

Because there are a lot more guitarists than bassists.

There's your answer, economics. However, I get far more people looking at and asking questions about my Ashdown ABM head and rig (it's the VU I reckon) than the guitar amps in my band and those doing the looking and asking tend to be guitarists. And is there any amp cooler looking than an Ampeg flip top?

I love those amps, personally, I want an amp to just amplify my signal and not color my tone at all. Then I can use external processors to change the tone when I want. To me, EQ on the Bass and the amp is too much, I would prefer one centralized EQ.
