Why do I need a 75th Anniversary Fender Precision Bass

I've owned a really great 4-string P-bass since 2005. From then to when I took a hiatus from gigging in the summer of 2015, I've never taken that bass to a gig or rehearsal as my only bass. Only as a backup. And I can only recall one recording (one song) on which I played that P-bass. So I humbly submit that a P-bass of any sort is not a necessity (at least for me). And no one has ever told me that I must have a 4-string Precision bass if I want to play with them. Nope, don't need a P-bass, Fender branded or otherwise. YPMV (your P-need may vary).

Edit: Ooops. There was one gig where that P-bass was my only instrument. It was at a Blues competition in the solo/duo category. A guitarist with me on bass and vocals. The songs were conducive to being played on a 4-string. YPMV.

Hating on gold? Never good?/always bad? Some here seem to lack vision or imagination.

To the OP, you need it, if you like it. Pay no attention to those who lash out at anything different. You might find some of the same folks who mock changes to the originals complaining elsewhere about Fender not bothering to come up with new, innovative, successful basses. Me? I like the classics and the new twists. Play what you like and enjoy.

In all seriousness, I find this particular anniversary bass to be very underwhelming. I have lots of Fender basses, including a 60th anniversary Jazz which I love. I'm anything but a Fender hater. Just not feeling it at all with this 75th.

I think it's a good-looking piece myself. But for two grand I'm expecting at least a nitro finish.
I would also take pause at all the posts thus far asserting that the gold hardware is certain to discolor.

I'm leery of special edition Fender basses. I bought a 50th anniversary American P-Bass new in 2001 because of the "rare" butterscotch blonde finish -- and a year later, Fender made it a standard color on the American Series. Grrr. I couldn't resist the 60th anniversary Jazz Bass, though.

I didn't see that one. I only saw the 75th anniversary one. It's 849.99. And it's not an ultra model. It's a standard.

Fender needs to get their Anniversary marketing sorted. Let's just keep perpetuating it, and it's very confusing to consumers.
