Why do people like that Fieldy dude?

See, that post by Gruff presented itself as a moral dilemma. I decided not to edit the word out because: A) I agree with the content of the post, B) Gruff and I are tight, so I know he's not being a jerk-off, and C) Albeit a bit crude, it seemed acceptable.

Fieldy got me into bass, esp Good God. In the middle of the song, right before Davis goes crazy, there's this bass interlogue thing. I didn't know anything about bass at the time, I thought it was guitar. My friend told me it was a bass, and I was like "wow!". I was 13 at the time, and I don't think I could name more than 4 bands. I'm 16 now, and I'm some indie-fag haha. But, still. That's what really got me into bass, a lame Fieldy click line that I thought was awsome. I wasn't snobby, I didn't know who FNM was. I'm sure thousands of kids were like I was and think he is the greatest thing ever, and who are any of you to dissapoint them? Ignorance is bliss.
And you know what? I still think Fieldy is cool, he's doing his own thing. He's original, and he gets payed for doing so. Sure, he isn't very technical. But who cares? Not me. He gets up and just grooves out some crappy percussion clicks in front of thousands of his fans, and I'm sure everyday of his life is a blast.

I was like 14 when I listen to korn and I thought Fieldy was a awsome bassist because he did **** I never heard of witha bass, then I heard Metallica, I never liked korn after that.
Pulling Teeth inspired me to pick up the bass (if Cliff Burton was still alive he would have his own signature bass). Some off fieldy's riffs sound good, but their so simple and I wouldn't consider him a great bassist, he is over rated.
arent a lot of bands these days doing that? i mena they did influence most rock music of the 90's.
Ok, The first time I listen to Korn I was like: Hey I´ve heard this before, that song reminds me.........
......and then I knew it. Every single song of Korn that have that "signature": pause--- (yell) GO!!!! and then the band hitting everything very hard, is a PRIMUS rip off (listen to Jerry was a race car driver, for example).
So if you ask me, I rather be "sailing the seas of cheese" instead of "following the leader" if you know what I mean........ and LES is nice than fieldy.
Period.

True. I think virtually every hard rock band that achieved popularity between 1997 and today has been some combination of FNM and Alice in Chains, with some virtually all Alice (Godsmack, Staind, Puddle of Mudd), some all FNM (Korn, Limp Bizkit), and some in between (Linkin Park).
Is Fieldy any worse of a bassist then someone like Dusty Hill who just thumps away on root notes?
I respect Dusty Hill just because he does something I cannot do. Play only root... well I can for a few songs, but I throw in fills sometimes... sometimes too much in a few songs.
About SOAD ripping off FNM everyone says it's based on FNM's "King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime." Now I will give you "Ugly in the Morning" SOADish. The rest of it... only a little. I still think SOAD is fairly unique. And I still really like their first album.

fieldy is not a bass god. thats what usually p*sses me off. I like his sound but get tired of kids saying his name like it belongs with flea, claypool, lee, pastorius.

Singer from Faith no more likes korn but can't stand it when people say they started the nu-metal era before it became nu-metal. Now if korn was ripping off FNM then you think that FNM would notice this and not like them at all. but a few years ago when david (korns drummer) broke his arm the drummer from faith no more (mike) filled in for him on korns european tour. Now even though faith no more isn't around anymore I still think they still indirectly influence bands today and will for a long time.
Now fieldy is differant. more of a percussion bassist. Now many bassist don't like that. truthfully, I'd rather see a bassist like that then a soloist bass player or even a soloist guitar player. get over guys the 80's are gone and no matter how long your solo is its not going to bring them back.

I want to say this very bluntly before I go on: I am not posting something you guys should be offended to, whatever you may think. This is my opinion, which I think is being asked of with this type of topic; any further discussion is most welcome in my PM inbox.

I don't like Fieldy's style at all. If you want to pop all though a song, sling a snare around you, or get that one string bass someone posted earlier (BTW, that bass is pretty cool! Anyone know what note that string is?) There's no point in having a noted instrument and not play any notes on it. I just don't see the point. *slams fists against table* Also, I agree with the view that Fieldy is not a bass god. He hasn't invented anything, nor made a style particularly outstanding; his views on musicianship are absolutely appaling for young kids (who really shouldn't be listening to it anyway- beh, what am I saying) ie "I don't need to practice" - and if anyone's seen a KoRn video, which I think you all have, you'll notice that he looks constantly stoned. Is this the sort of thing kids should be looking up to? No.
Hey, while we're at it, says my subconscious thoughts, let's slander Eminem for the same thing.
However, I do like some of KoRn's songs. I don't listen to them often, but Freak On A Leash and ADIDAS are my favs. (Also the video for "Dead Bodies Everywhere" kept me up for a week with nightmares - you can't tell me that isn't effective promotion of the darkside). True, most if not all of their songs sound the same, and I have noticed that 'pause-GO!' cliche, but they do produce some nice ear-candy.
BTW, is there a band out there that isn't a copy of either someone else or themselves? We base our playing on things we've heard before and build upon that, so you can have a song that's as original as Pringles but has probably been composed by someone before (I've found this happens a lot in Jazz). Revolutionary as a band may be, they're always going to be compared with someone else. Hey - the Spice Girls were compared with the Beatles at one stage. Not for the reason I've been specific about, but it's the same thing.
Sorry for the long post, but I thought I'd expressed my thoughts on the matter.
PS if anyone's got any good FNM songs I should listen to, PM me. I'm sixteen and have never consciously heard a FNM song; after reading some of these posts, I get the feeling I should have gone to school with the band

I agree, there is absolutely nothing unique about his style, you could however call his tone unique ... but it still sounds like s**t to me.
