Why do people like that Fieldy dude?

I understand what he was saying, You can draw attention upon yourself... it doesn't have to be positive attention. In this sense, Fieldy is like a 4 year old who's coloring on the wall... look what I did mommy.

True--SOAD are another group of red-handed thieves--but many nu-metal bands who cite Korn as an influence don't recognize that FNM came first.
The problem with FNM was way that it was too clever and warped for its time and its target audience. Patton's bizarre psycho-sexual/scatological fantasies just can't sell as well as generic teen angst.

Ok, here we go... Back to the question at the top "Why do people like that Fieldy dude?"
He sounds and plays different, I find entertainment in that. For me, there's something about the infectious drive that I get from their music, and no offense, but NOT from FNM. Korn isn't the only one, there's also Sevendust, Disturbed, Godsmack, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, etc.
Fieldy and Korn....?!?! I like what they do and how they sound. I also like Anita Baker, Sting, and Spyro Gyra for the VERY SAME REASON.
Let the music be what it is. You want to (over)analyze and critique it? Compare it to other bands? do whatever butters your (limp) biscuit.
IMO that is a ludicrous waste of time.
One day I'll crave pizza and Dave Matthews. The next, maybe a cheeseburger and Sarah McLaughlin. But when I want some hideously HOT Thai food and Korn, that's what the hell I'm gonna do.
Regardless of political correctness or intellectual stimulation.

Good, that's how it should be. I think Sarah McLaughlin goes more with cheese-cake than cheese-burgers though.

good ole fieldy, almost 400 views on another thread about him. I really wonder how many posts/views have been made about him, probably more then any other bassist around because everyones jealous that master click is making more then everyone of us, for slamming around the strings on his bass. I like fieldy.
Fieldy is very tight with the drummer... then again, he has often been called a stringed drummer. I'm not going to run out, buy an Ibanez, downtune it, cut my mids and hit my bass but I like what Fieldy does. I DON'T on the other hand like kids who look up to him. He says things like, "Duurrrr, I duzn't nED 2 pRaKtiz." Considering how many kids look up to him, that isn't something they need to be hearing.
I agree with all the stuff bimplizkit is sayin.
KoRn makes stuff that people enjoy, and stuff that makes them money. what would KoRn be without Fieldy? a hell of a lot less IMO. all part of the overall sound. some TBers were inspired by him, if it leads people to play bass, then so what if they are doing something similar to someone else's? If it were an obvious emulation of someone else, why does anyone listen to them and not the other?
o well. to each his own I spose.

If you're going to idolise and copy a bassist then Fieldy would be a bad choice as he's so limited in his playing. However, he does groove, he does have a good sense of time, and he doesn't sound like anyone else. His biggest weakness as a bassist is that he doesn't really play pitches or harmonically, he's more of a percussionist. (And what a weakness what would be in any other context!)
And regarding the Faith No More vs Korn argument, especially that Korn have ripped off Faith No More, I'd suggest that Korn have done as much their own original thing as any rock band does nowadays. As much as I love Faith No More, Korn is a totally different bag, darker, less warped, much angrier and with rather funky groove.
