Just to digress slightly... it probably wouldn't take him long to replace the quill with its modern re-implementation, the fountain pen.
And already your analogy breaks down. Because the post I was responding to was making the point that the creativity is independent of the tools. And to make your argument you start out with an upgrade from the ergonomic nightmare that comes on wings. Why not skip straight to the editing heaven of a high end laptop. Even Mr. King is probably more prolific when he doesn't have to dip his nib every few seconds.

Bu rather than labour on with your broken comparison it's probably easier for me to just say that I agree with your underlying point. As did the post that got me going with my little joke. People choose their tools for a whole rane of values and vanities.

I myself value the minimalism of a highly functional, low end bass. The contrarian pride I take in doing the job for minimum outlay is pure vanity.
