Why do YOU play more than four?

I play a 5er because:

- It's more comfortable not having to go up and down the neck as often as with a 4-string

- It's more comfortable not having to detune

- It's nicer to have those lower notes available at any time

- It's nice to have all those things without missing anything froma 4-string

:)

13 is enough for Jean. And 12 is enough for Garry Goodman.

And Warr Guitars are enough for how many people?

Most people here can make good music with a 4-string bass. Some people just make even better music with more strings. If they pay for it, sound good with it, and don't pressure you to use one, what on earth do you have a problem with?

:eyebrow:

Why on earth do I have a problem?
I'm illustrating the flipside of the Jaco thing.;)

YEs i know, can't you read??? they have more than 4 strings but they are more often seen in fours (and many of teir hits are in fours). read it again. and by the way this is not a competition. and nobody argued on which tools to use, for obvious reasons, that there are different tools for different purposes as well as basses for different songs in which they are needed. my point was the four is still best for all genre's.

Why? are you a purest not to own or use a four-string bass?

This post delivers.

On a more serious note I tend to very defensive about my 9. And why shouldn't I be? I spent a few thousand dollars, and 13 months waiting for it....only to spend the last two years getting a firm enough of a grasp to play the thing just as well as my 5's. I used to own a Fodera AJ 6 and was subject to the "Fodera's aint' worth the money....Fodera's are all flash....blah blah blah." Yeah, ya know I did pay too much for it but it was MY decision, NOT yours or anyone elses. Shut yer trap. And no....I'm not rich, I'm a therapist at a mental health center...social work tends not to pay the bills too well. I just don't understand the rationale behind thrashing ERB'ers.

That's like saying "Hey man, your Dodge Viper sucks cause it's too fast."

Really? You sure about that? If you're gonna dog me for having a custom 9 then ya better be ready for me to slam you for playing a POS 4 string that you bought from a garage sale. If you don't want to get it back in the face, you better not throw it at me in the first place.

I get a little tired of the ERB'ers around here taking it on the chin (with the exception of John Turner) and sulking away just to help maintain the gentle balance that is TB. Screw that. Any 4 string purist that tries to lecture me is going to get an earfull of illogical nonsense and insults. Why? Cause that's how I roll.

There......there's my 2 cents. And yes......it delivers.

LOL, but if you insult their bass, you're the bad guy. That's how double standards work.

I've had an instance or two where my bass was insulted, to which I responded that they're not only insulting something that cost me some hard earned money but it's also something that I designed. One of which has sold maybe 10-15 models. Not many people can boast that they play a bass they designed and only a few can boast that other people have ordered it. ;)
