Why does everyone hate an Warwick basses.

For the record, the neck wasn't the problem for a lot of people. In a nutshell, to a number of people warwicks feel like they aren't finished building them when they ship them. No need to get upset, it seems like the overwhelming response is "no hate, they just aren't for me"

I doubt slimming the necks somewhat is going to be enough to change many peoples minds, me included. Enjoy your Warwicks, that's why you bought em.

I like really aggressive sounding basses..so that Ovangkol neck does it for me.
The MEC pups give out the tone of the woods and strings instead of sounding like that particular kind of pup...(ex. EMG)
Bell brass frets = great idea!
As for that drift wood comment...Warwick uses better/more exotic woods and each have their unique sound. Leo Fender or the people who make SX wouldn't know about that...

No, but Elrick, Alembic, Roscoe, Tobias, Conklin, Fodera, Ken Smith, Spector, Pedulla, and a couple others do know plenty about that, and they don't feel like a block of unfinished wood. Like I said, that natural feel may be what Warwick guys want, but the overall feel is that of a project that someone got tired of working on and sold.

you know there are gloss finish warwicks and solid colors, too, right? I would argue (get your tomatoes ready, people) that the warwick craftsmanship aint what it was in the wenge neck era, either...

most folks complaints ARE in fact about the fat neck

WARWICK WENT BACK TO THEIR OLDER NECK PROFILE FOR THE '09 LINEUP, WHICH IS MUCH MORE SLIMMER (THINK THE WENGE NECKS), SO STOP COMPLAINING PLEASE

I really hope someone will read this ffs...

neat.

doesn't change the neck on my old warwick, nor the thousands out there that may or may not eventually enter the used market.

I read it the first time ya said it. I'm sure most others did too.

I've played 09 Warwicks and still didn't care for the way their necks felt in my hands. In fact, whenever I'm on the market for a new bass I go around to every store I can find and play everything in the price range I'm looking for that I can get my hands on and be it old or new Warwicks I just do not care for the way they feel. They all feel awkward to me. It's a shame too, because I do like the tone on some of their models.

To the OP: I do not really see much Warwick bashing on this site and I've been here for 9 years now. The most bashing I do see seems to go towards Ibanez.

I don't hate Warwick basses, infact when I was buying my '08' MIA Fender Jazz V, the final 3 basses were the Fender, MM and a Warwick Corvette. Warwick necks take a little getting used to, but it's not anything that I couldn't have handled. I think they make very nice basses, with the usual negatives aside.

I used to be a dislike r of all Warwicks. Then a strange thing happed... I went to my local GC one night somewhat bored and somewhat curious. I will preface the trip by telling you I'd been playing a 35" scale bass and was not enjoying it at all so I was informally on the hunt. In that moment I thought to heck with it I am going to play every 5'er they have. My mind told me I'd be buying a Stingray 5 that night (past experience also told me that). To my surprise the best playing and most tonally versatile bass was a Corvette 5 $$. I have had it for 6 months and the only other bass I currently want is a 4 string version of the same. Guys I had all the same gripes that everybody else has posted and I thought the neck was the most god awful offensive thing i'd ever played. But that night something really clicked and I am so happy it did. Since then I have bought a Corvette Fretless as well.

Unfortunately, in our society today people all to often associate dislike or distaste for 'hate'. Simple dislike isn't controversial enough to shake people up. Hate is. Dislike doesn't motivate people. Hate does.

I dislike a lot of things. I strongly dislike very few things. Sitting here right now I can't really think of anything that I 'hate'.

.

in fact, the necks on the flashbacks are even slimmer than the other wenge-era warwicks - which makes your flashback 5 a very cool neck for a 5er

i play a flashback 4 myself and the neck is downright SKINNY - it's narrower than a new waver's tie! so when people who play P-basses talk about warwicks having baseball bat necks, i'm like

I don't care for thin Jazz necks. The one Jazz I have has an OLD Warmoth neck on it which is narrow but still very chunky. Anything skinnier causes my hand to cramp up :hmm: I was concerned about the narrow spacing but I've grown to love it. The tone is the clincher in the deal :) I got a bit crazy and bought the Flashback and a Lull P5 in the same week. My plan was to play them both, then pass along the one that I liked least. They are still both here and having to get rid of one would KILL me :rollno:

Well warwick uses oil type or natural finishes.

Do any of those brands that you name put lacquer on their products if so, thats probably why you feel the way you do...

I've never owned a Warwick, but I sure don't hate 'em.

Actually, I've gotten GAS for a black DoubleBuck$$ before. Nice looking axe.

This model is pretty hot, too.

Oddly enough, different/odd neck shapes don't really bother me. I like everything from old P "baseball bat" necks to the superslim Geddy.
