Why does everyone hate an Warwick basses.

I don't hate basses I don't own. I tried Warwick basses.. they feel decent.. my preference is more for what I own. I haven't read any hate for warwicks in this forum.. if there is any, I have yet to read it....

So you ask that question, yet you're talking smack about your PoS pawnshop Ibanez.

So now "The only reason I still have the Ibanez is pure back up purposes" means you're talking crap about that bass? Hmmmzzz...I'm learning something new every day.
Anyway, back to the topic: IMO ppl like to talk & give the impression they know what they're talking about, when in fact they're pretty much clueless. Warwick basses are very different from one year to the next, so you can't say that all Wicks have chunky necks, since it's obviously not true. I have a Thumb BO which is far from perfect, but the tone is to die for, and the neck feels right (after playing the bass for a while). I'm currently waiting for my 2nd W (a 'Vette). Meanwhile I've also bought an Ibby BTB 'cause I still think Ibbys are great value for the money. And on top of this, the only bass I know I'll never get rid of is a Cort C4, because that thing has the most comfortable neck I've ever played on. So I don't have any problem owning & playing other basses/brands, but I love & respect W for their distinct tone and feel. It takes a while to get acustomed to a Wick, but they're solid.

personally, i cant stand warwicks. they feel nice, but the sound never does a thing for me. theyre also pretty inconsistant from what ive seen, some are great instruments that just arent my style, others (of the same price range) arent that hott all around..

I don't know anybody who hates this Warwick.......

Warwicks seem to be everywhere in Australia. They are often the sole higher end basses in many an Australian music store. Though many bands played them and many friend desired one I just found them a little over exposed and over rated. Yes this is all subjective, I guess I felt like telling people that there are other options to Warwick.

My dislike comes from the general aesthetics though I don't mind the pj Streamers (I like Spectors). I have trouble with the necks, have played some shockers in store which really only needed a setup.
I did really enjoy playing a 4 string Dirty Blonde Thumb once which chanced my opinion somewhat. A little darker sounding than what I'd normally use but interesting non the less. Low Mid growl is a great thing but I prefer Wal varity.

It's just that people who don't like warwicks, really ****ing hates them. No joke. That makes them stand out a lot. I know, I felt the same way as you before. And AGAIN, I'm gonna repeat it:

WARWICK WENT BACK TO THEIR OLDER NECK PROFILE FOR THE '09 LINEUP, WHICH IS MUCH MORE SLIMMER (THINK THE WENGE NECKS), SO STOP COMPLAINING PLEASE

Pure personal preference. Warwicks are distinct - they have their own feel, balance, neck, sound and pickups, and general look. And distinctly different instruments are going to inspire more polarized opinions than Yet Another Jazz Clone.

Personally, I find Warwicks to be not particularly ugly, decent sound, not real comfortable, kind of expensive. Not my first choice, for sure. But there's certainly nothing wrong with them.

Playing a Warwick is like drinking scotch, its a taste that has to be acquired ;)

you sir, have the right idea on apparently more than one subject.

also in reference to scotches, they can vary IMMENSELY from model to model with or without a major price difference. They're definitely known for there bigger necks, but it seems to be common in that is not a bad thing, just not as common a preference on TB. But from the Corvette to the Dolphin Pro to the Thumb to the Hellborg series, there are major differences in taste

Everyone who doesn't own a Warwick seems to talk crap about them all the time. I own two basses, a Corvette $$ and an Ibanez pawnshop P.O.S., my first bass. The only reason I still have the Ibanez is pure back up purposes. The Warwick is the last bass I'll ever buy. The tone is out of this world, craftmenship is perfect. It's awsome looking. I know what sound and looks good can differ from person to person, but why all the hate. Maybe because they don't try to sound like a fender.
I don't hate Warwick basses, but have a hard time with the chunkiness of the neck and the string spacing on many models. Also, I've found the tone to be bland, compared to the older Warwicks from the early 1990s.

Honestly, every time somebody posts a "why all the hate" thread--and we get a lot of these threads-- It's always some agitated teen who is feeling all butt-hurt because somebody said something negative about their favorite brand (or bassist), and they blow it up into this idea that there's all kinds of "hate" for that name all over the place, and gosh darnit their favorite brand/bassist is awesome so people should quit all the hatin'!!!! :spit:

People like different things, and there are a lot of people who tried one or two Warwicks that they didn't like, or where they don't like the looks, and so what? It's not hate, it's preferences, and we all have those.

Yeah....what you said +1 !!

Shoot, try playing a Ric.....2 guys walk up to the stage...one hates it (according to him Rics are a POS - the other guy loves 'em - says that Geddy Lee invented them)...I can't win for losing!!:D

You like your Warwick - good deal!!

i like Warwicks to an extent.. the neck is thick, which is if i did get one i would have to reprofile the neck to a different shape.. this would be easy to do, since there's half a tree trunk there to sculpt.. they are headstock heavy.. probably due to the tree trunk neck.. other than that, i find them nice.. even with the MEC electronics..

They look like driftwood and have uncomfortable necks.

Kinda harsh. Then again, i have never played one. Therefore I have no experience with this. People hate on my Dean ML all the time, saying its to big. or the neck is to long, but its mine not theirs so I dont worry about it. You shouldnt care about what people say. If you like it then who cares?

I don't like the tone, which seems to get buried in the mix as soon as the guitar player plays a note - before he even takes his amp off standby.

i like warwicks, i think... not that experienced really.

they were way out of my budget for my first bass, so ivfigurred testing them out would just be teasing myself, but purely on the sound - one of my favourite bands used mainly (if not only) warwicks, the bass was very very good at standing out from the mix, i would have considerred it the lead instrument.

the are called The Dead and are from Brisbane Australia, they had a completely brutal death metal sound, but with some very creative bass through it, the guitars was way low and the bass kinda took the lead at times, with some interesting twanyness and slap, or the guitar played alittle higher and let the basshlold everything together from below.

unfortunately they don't play bass anymore :crying: they fired their guitarist and their bass player has now switched to guitar... but if you can find any of their old stuff it's well worth a listen... their new stuff is um... interesting... but i can't truely love anything bass-less

"leave britney spears' bassist alone!!"?

i own 2 warwick corvette standards (with emg's). both 4 strings. I have tried many different basses but I am the most comfortable in my vette. If it aint broke don't fix it. Never had any neck dive issues at all - in fact that's one reason i like it so much

As for the wide necks - I allways liked em - Gives me something to HANG ON TO!
