Why does this look so weird?

That's one of the "Long Horn" basses that were made in the 80's. There were some J's with a similar extended cutaway on the treble side but they didn't last long.

I think it looks kinda cool.

That's an early-90's P Plus-that horn is characteristic of basses from around that time, as Nino said.

The body is reminiscent of the very late 80's and early 90's, which is when the "long horn" fenders were in production. Either this is a 'longhorn' body with an earlier neck on it or its a real 80's bass, but an 'off' model, not a standard P as the pickup configuration and controls would suggest.

The bridge is similar to the ones used on the P-Elite back in the early 80's-those knurled wheels are fine tuners. The tuners are similar to those found on today's American Deluxes. The controls have an added pickup selector and (series-parallel? coil-splitter?) switch added-I know what it does, but I can't remember at the moment. The pickups are Lace Sensors.

In short, it's a Precison Bass Plus, the bass equivalent of the Strat Plus.
