Why does this scare me (waaay) more than it probably should?

Oh man I am sure it will be amazing.

Also- i had no idea about the thunderfunk—gibson connection

Dave “Funk” worked at Gibson, and when he left he bought the parts to make more Gibson bass amps after they were discontinued. Most of the Gibson GB440 amps were assembled and sold by him, which you can tell by a “TF###” serial scratched by hand on the back of the casing. Maybe 150 of those or so. When he ran out of Gibson parts, he started selling them branded as Thunderfunk.

There’s more to the story, before and after, along with a few dramas and minor changes to the design. Info threads and articles easily found.

I'm waiting for them to bring back the LAB series (loved the knobs on those...) :woot:

Sweet! Didn’t know LAB was owned by Gibson.

This is an all tube guitar amp, no class D or switchmode power supply. It was designed by Randall and the guitar amp team at Mesa to capture the (very much vintage) vibe of the old Falcon GA series but with enhancements and a little bit of creative licence from Cesar and the Gibson team. It's very, very much not a rebranding of a Mesa product, though we are building it here in the US for for Gibson because that's an important element for all of us involved with the product line.

I have seen it, heard it, I worked on the project and it's real. I can't say anymore, but I'm sure there will be lots of speculation... including usual incorrect rumors generated by the guitar amp forum mills.

100% relieved. Thanks.

Every time I get some new tube toy and I think I'm finally the coolest kid on the block, a certain guitarist shows up with something like this: a Gibson amp from the freakin' 1930s. (And I love him for it...)

If Gibson wanted to put out a new tube bass amp with a half power setting - or a combo that looked something like this - that would be fine with me.

I don't know if they're going to make bass amps but a guitar amp is in the works.
It looks like Gibson Amps will be making a comeback very soon

I played through a borrowed Gibson bass amp when I was starting out back in the 60’s. The owner called it instant death as it was always at the repair shop.

Calling @agedhorse ..

My thought is if it is nothing more than a rebranded Mesa amp, it should be better than what they put out in days of yore.. But if it’s a case of “the more you have to sell, the more you sell” and nothing that sets it apart from what else is on the market, it will have a short run.
