Why doesn't Fender offer a stack-knob model Jazz bass?

Then I would guess that JPJ didn't like the stack setup, so he got a new control plate and rewired it to VVT.

Speaking of the 62 Jazz, I've seen photos of John Paul Jones' 62 Jazz and he has 3 knobs on his. What's up with that, is the current model inaccurate?

guy pratt apparently scored a rare old jazz from dave gilmour that was v/v/t/t and he loves it. so i guess once upon a time they did. realistically, you could do volume, volume, and then stack the tone knobs, since you use them less.

I'm thinking maybe asking why Fender stopped making Jazzes with a stacked knob setup might give you a better answer as to why they don't do it now.

BTW, stacked knobs must not be that expensive since Fender puts them on the Squier VM Jaguar:

Fender changed from stacks to the VVT in '62. Some were made with stacked controls and some with the VVT. Changes were made when the new parts came in.

My 62 has factory original VVT set up.

And I've seen several others that were stacked.

So yeah to answer your question no its not inaccurate, it's accurate for the earlier 62 version.

That's very true but rolling back one tone control (for me always the rear) on a VT/VT configuration still gives a more subtle range of possibilities than you have with just one tone control.

Anyone ever wire a VVT with only the rear p.up running throught the tone pot?
Hmm....the more I sit here thinking about it the more a Vol/Blend/rear p.up only Tone seems like what would work for me.

This is what my logic would be as well.

Regardless if one tone adjustment effects more than the individual pickup (by previous definition, effecting both pickups), doesn't it still boil down to more tonal control (subtle range of possibilities as mentioned above)?

I'm not saying I know any better about wiring schematics, nor doubting anyone else's knowledge - but to me, that (by definition) is not redundant, as it is capable of different tone variations than the standard VVT setup is.

Personally, I completely do not like the stack knob layout.
The interactive nature of the two tone knobs effecting each other makes it really hard for me to quickly dial in different tones mid song, or even between songs.

I much prefer v/v/t, or better yet, volume, blend tone.

Agreed. Although, a Vol, Blend, Tone, Tone would be nicer. Don't know if it's possible to wire this, though...well, I guess you'd have to go Pickup -> Tone -> Blend -> Volume with each pickup, but that would give you the tonal range of the stacked pot system but still having the simplicity of the V/V/T setup.
