Why DR strings are amazing

Recently tried DRs. Had EBalls on my Jazz and thought that i didnt like the instrument and put it up for sale... then 2 weeks before it sold, i put on a set of hi beams (light gauge) and fell in love w/ the instrument... sold it anyway... big mistake...

Recently got a new bass... bought used from a friend... thought i didnt like the instrument... put on a set of light gauge hi beams... now plays beautifully... loving it.

am wanting to try sunbeams too. but gc does not stock. also want to try the light medium gauge... maybe later... loving the feel and sound right now.

I'm one of those players who thinks that DR strings are worth every ounce of hype they get.

I had tried many strings over the years and while I liked quite a few of them and had some favorites, I was totally converted to DR's after trying them. My first set was the HI-Beams, then the Low Riders and the Fat Beam MMs. I can't say enough good things about them and to my ears, they are far better than any other brand.

I especially dig the Hi Beams and I would be very disappointed if I had to play bass without them.

I've been going back and forth between nickel loriders and sunbeams. I've decided to go with the sunbeams because of a nicer feel and smoother tone. The nickel loriders have just a little too much bite for me especially with my F1 head which has a lot of high end zing. I have a new un open set of med. gauge nickel lo riders to swap for sunbeams if anyone is interested.

I have gone through many strings but finally settled in to sticking to DR's. I have 5 basses and they all have different DR strings on them. Fatbeams. Nickel Loriders. Stainless Loriders, Sunbeams and Black Beauties. I was going to get new pups and preamp for my Grendel 5 and by chance bought a set of Lorider stainless on Craigslist. I was just the sound I was looking for and has saved me the expense of new electronics.

i've been using hi-beams for probably 5-6 years. every once in a while i'll try another brand, but i keep coming back to them. sound great with fingers or a pick, very responsive to how hard or soft you play. i also really love the way the react to neck slides. the tension is great, too. if i ever got endorsements, DR would be first on my list, followed by ashdown :)

As much as I love Hi-Beams, I just switched out some nickel roundwounds for a set of Hi-Beams and feel like the bass lost a lot of its punchiness and growl, which are the two things that I feel really makes my tone "my tone".

Have I been brainwashing myself for 4 years?
Do I really not like Hi-Beams as much as I thought I did?:crying:

Guess it's time to try Sunbeams, eh? :smug:

I have Sunbeams and Lorider Nickels on 2 of my basses. I find the the Loriders have more punch and growl.

Seriously, the Lo-Riders er best for what you describe, as gnarly as the rotosound swingbass, BUT they do not hurt your fingers and last a gazillion times longer!

DR puts the awesome in awesome. :D I love the black beauties on my Vampyre, with the J/TJ pickup configuration it was very biting and clangy with the stock warwick steel roundwounds. I put some DR Black Beauties on it and now it sounds fat and deep. Excellent strings.

I like the Fat Beams and the Nickel Lo-Riders. To me they are the best strings for my applications. I stay away from all coated strings, DR's included. Anyone here who has had all around problems with any of the coated DR's, especially tone wise {sounds like somethings missing} try one of the uncoated sets and you'll be happy.

+1

I hated my black beauties but really like the Fat Beams!

i ordered a set of dr high beam flats and they are out until november 1st. i dont think i can wait that long for a set of strings. im currently playing with SS rounds which i hate. i love the sound of flats and DR is the only company that makes them the way i like em
