Never mind that I should be working. Never mind that I swore off Indonesian basses. Never mind that I have a self imposed 5 bass limit and now have 6.

I have been gassing for regular old P or PJ. The closest thing I have is a G&L Tribute SB-2. I have been casually searching for a used USA G&L LB-100 but haven't found one yet thats ticks all the right boxes for me (color, cost, condition).

You know what would tick off all the right boxes? The choice that honors your decision to limit your bass intake and avoid Indonesian instruments. So allow me to be the voice of reason. Allow me to take your side.

These are all terrible basses. There’s nothing “regular old” about a PJ. And none of these are P’s because that’s a Precision Bass and those are made by Fender. Blocks look hideous and they’re all going to say “Made in Indonesia” somewhere on them, right?

HARD PASS.

you’re welcome ;)

So if I am picking up what you are laying down, American Professional II or maybe American Standard in sunburst.

Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

I don't have one.

I just never quite figured out why Fender (and Fender-Shaped-Objects) never used the white pickguard/white pickups shells look they use on Strats and other gee-tars on basses very often. Me, I dig it.

Well, NOW I'm in the dog house with this INDONESIAN bass . . .

Why is picking a color difficult? No clue, but I do know if you give the average individual too many choices of color they will often not choose. I've asked people hundreds of times to pick three colors from a few hundred I can use. It is the hardest part of getting a complete build sheet. I also get a lot of "you decide", or "it doesn't matter to me", although experience has taught me acting on either of those replies leads more to disappointment than satisfaction, enough so I now ask a few unrelated questions, then prepare a few samples for perusal to avoid having to redo the job because my choice of colors did not live up to "you decide" or "it doesn't matter to me" :D

I've never picked a color. You could say I pick the best "player". Or I let the color choose me. Right now it's a light green on a used Reverend. The sales man called it baby puke green but I was seeing the same color on Spring tree buds, it's the color of early Spring.
Actually I did once pick a color, butterscotch on a Sterling 5. But I keep playing the GS exclusive black and blond SUB I was forced to buy due to low price vs maple neck comfort. I think people put too much importance on their own opinion these days. It bocks out other experiences.

My no Indonesian basses stance is a recent one and might not stick. It definitely isn't quality control related - my Lakland Skyline DJ4 is flawless as far as I can tell. In fact, its fretwork is far better than my USA G&L SB-1 (and that hurts).

Nor is it racial, political, or moral. I really can't put my finger on it, but it is an almost subconscious desire of some sort for my USA based musical instrument brands to made in the USA.

The reason I will likely cave is that - within the limits of what I am willing to pay for a user bass - options become a bit constrained to Fender, G&L, and maybe EBMM. USA Lakland and USA Sadowsky aren't happening.
