Why Madonna, not Sheila E. Did the Prince tribute.

Apparently some people the industry are thinking Madonna's career might be ripe for a relaunch, and this was an opportunity to test the waters. She has 4 live albums and 13 studio albums, and lord knows how many godawful videos already recorded. I'm sure some record label exec is drooling over the potential revenue opportunities that catalog represents if she takes off again.

Why Madonna?

She brings more money in for the organizers.
Really? Who's watching these award shows? 13-30 age groups. Most have no idea who the hell Madonna is. Please! If that's the case I would have had Bruno Mars, Beyonce, Rihanna or Taylor Swift do the tribute. I don't get it. Madonna is not a good singer and she's way past her prime. Anybody 'more' relevant. More appropriately it should have been Sheila E, Chaka Khan, Wendy & Lisa or anyone who actually worked with and shared the stage with Prince! These watered down 'tributes' are nothing but a disservice to the original artists! Hell, Celine Dion would have done a better job!

I guess Bob Dylan is on deck for a Michael Jackson tribute! SMDH

Boillboard's awards are based on sales, not opinion. Hence things like Adele's acceptance speech via video - there's no suprise in who's winning, so you can hand her the award before the broadcast and have her tape a speech. Similarly, if you want a Prince tribute, you'd give the honor to someone with....a lot of sales. Hence Madonna, not someone who would make logical sense from their relationship with Prince, or someone with a similar musical style. So, there's logic to what they did, though the results artisitcally and sentimentally may have been a big miss.

Off topic, but......while certainly " past her prime" (?) ....not only is she still fairly relevant ( latest album last year debuted at #2 here in America and did even better in the rest of he world----https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebel_Heart_(Madonna_album).....). But she's also a pop icon and legacy performer. Almost any pop star of today owes alot of their career to Madonna, especially edgy performers like ga ga, perry, pink... etc...and all will admit to being influenced by her ( if not they are lying). So , just as an FYI, don't right her off as some 80s pan flash.

This performance sucked, and I think any of the suggestions above would've been much more meaningful and sincere ( not that I don't think Madonna wasn't being sincere)...... and ideally......Wendy, Lisa, Shelia, chaka and possibly Morris day would've been amazing.

But remeber, this thing is organized by rec execs.......they have no idea how to do anything legit.
