That is exactly what I was thinking! Most in that age group dont know who Prince is either, and you can bet far more know who Madonna is.
So what?

This is total disrespect. The crazy thing is that in the wake of Prince's death, Sheila, The Time, and others are probably experiencing an upsurge in sales, and that would only increase with a Billboard appearance.
+1 to all of this. Her response wasn't disrespectful, it was the truth. That's exactly why Billboard would leave them out. People seem to forget that, for everyone other than the artists, music is a business. Pure and simple.
Bruno Mars would have been a good choice. Lenny Kravitz would be as well.
Agreed!A tribute is a nice thing, but you will never make everyone happy because it just isn't as good as the original.
Why Madonna?
She brings more money in for the organizers.
Tempest in a teapot. The media keeps hoping the 'deceased artist' thing will really take the off. But beyond generating a lot of chatter on the net (here for example), it never turns into the big windfall for the labels that they hope it will be.
Exactly. You'd be surprised how much money the 'labels' make off Prince. Pre & Post death. And his estate will get very little from it. Disrespectful!I think you might want to look at sales. Prince has moved a lot of product since his death.
The hilarious thing about this is that back in the day, Madonna was basically the anti-Prince.
All those "awards" shows are essentially the artistic equivalent of People magazine- fake bulls*it for the masses.
I was disappointed as well with Madonna as the one picked to do this. I realize she's a huge 80's icon but I think they missed the boat on this.
I actually was secretly hoping it would be Bruno Mars backed by the Revolution. I think that would have been killier! And then the Time joining in. Afterall Morris Day is Prince's cousin too.
Agree 100%.That would have been cool! Still, I think Sheila E needed to be involved. Just at videos of them together. They had a rare connection.
