Why No Line 6 "BASS CAB"?

I agree with you on that. I think the best option for now is to use whatever FRFR solution you like and add a small 12" powered sub.

Why not just go for something like a Barefaced Big Baby II? Under 30lbs and shouldn't need a sub with it.

I know it isn't powered, but that's where a good modeling amp, or standalone power amp comes in.

Standalone rack mount power amps defeat the purpose, they don't make powered bass cabs.

Yeah Xitone already built me one cab. It's awesome for bass, acoustic and electric guitars. Dayton power amp with 12" coax speaker. It's large and heavy but it can easily handle bass from a modeler or even my Trace Elliot Transit B.

I played the ISP powered 2x10 cab a few years back at Gearfest... it was small/compact and sounded pretty good with their BetaBass in front of it. Kind of pricey though

Just checked Line 6 website and under their Legacy Amps they no longer mention their LowDown Bass Amps and Cabs.
Just like the letter I got from them years ago implied, they seem to have washed themselves from all of their Bass Amp and Cab past. "They are a Guitar Company."

If you go to a pro level FOH manufacturer they don't use the term FRFR. They'll have cabs for Portable sound, Tour Sound, Installed Sound and so on. They'll have all the measurements, charts, and venue modeling apps and EASE of equivalent data so you can actually predict how the cabs will work in a room.

On the other hand, if a Bass or Guitar manufacturer tries to compete with these they use the label FRFR. Except they lack the measurements and charts. What they do is try to look like a traditional Bass or Guitar amp but perform more like a PA/FOH cabinet. Without the actual published measurements and charts it would all be subjective as to their actual performance. Thus I'm a skeptic of "FRFR" labeled cabs.

I agree that the plus vs minus financial benefit of - and market for - developing a speaker system for electric bass utilizing IR tech just isn't there. I could bore you to tears with my personal trials and tribulations of cracking the FRFR stage rig nut. For the level of quality I expected from FRFR, it was costly both in time and money. Honestly, I don't see any way around it at this point. Yes, I'm a happy camper for having gotten to a place where modeling + IR cab emulation works for me on stage and for DI to FOH, but it's definitely not a plug-n-play process.
