Why no straplocks?

5 advantages to this setup:

1. The strap doesn't come off which is the purpose right?
2. I never forget the strap because it can't come off without a screwdriver.
3. I'm short and wear my bass kind of high and the strap doesn't adjust. Hardly anyone else can play it. Keeps the tire kickers at bay.

Poor man's strap lock system, lol. Did this for quite a few years when I first started playing at my guitarist suggestion. Worked well, now I use strap locks though!

I love my new fender Kingman acoustic bass guitar. I hate the back Jack/strap button set up on it. Can barley get the strap to go on it and it does not set on it to well. Afraid it will pop off, even though the bass is very light. I will have to do some investigation and see if someone makes some kind of strap lock for this type. I would not be able to fit a neoprene washer on it either.

I thought I don't need it,till I first bought a Les Paul studio and it fell of on a ground ended with broken neck,and I saw that also a LP Standard what is more expensive guitar than my Studio has the same straps,which are very tiny (shame on Gibson).Imidiately bought a pair of strap locks.Though never needed on my basses.

I confess I did put Dunlops on my Schecter though. They work great I has some issues with the Schallers back in the day that's why I went with the washers.

Any ideas on this one any one? Or should I pit this in a separate thread?

i installed Dunlop straplok on my 86' Washburn Force ABT B-30 (metallic red with all black hardware), but the Levy strap :rollno: i brought was sort of inappropriate for the Praise Worship last Friday, so i let her use an old Fender strap... well what do you know?!? the thing came loose and CRASH!!! :bawl: everyone looked at her and she was so shocked... :eek: our Praise bassist apologize to me a few times... :help: i said its no biggie after realizing the Fender strap is crappy (should never let her use it) :bawl:

NOTE: i didn't include the Fender strap, since it is old and strap holes were loose. :hmm:

on the left is the Levy pinup girls and right is the Levy maroon strap (both have Dunlop straplok)

i then remember i have another Levy strap for my acoustic/electric guitar, just needed to install spare straplok... its my fault because i have extra Levy straps with straplok at home.

i checked my bass and two of the original knob got cracked and the bridge has little scratch but overall bass is still ok.

i took of the original Washburn knobs and use Strukture Parts dome knobs (black) :D

get Dunlop straplok, Schaller Straplock or any straplock for your beloved bass (make sure you bring a neutral design strap with straplok)

As mentioned, strap locks wear out, and then they can fail. My Turner Electroline had the built-in type. One nite the top lock failed, the headstock hit the floor, messed up the tort veneer and made a nice ding. I was lucky the damage wasn't worse. No strap locks for me. Ever.

After nearly 200 posts on strap locks, the averaged consensus seems to indicate that nothing is foolproof; strap locks are not perfect insurance against strap malfunction.

I think the wide washer on the strap post could possibly be the most secure, but to install it properly means leaving the strap on your instrument - not a problem for everyone.

For me, I'll continue to use strap locks and do my best to ensure they remain in good working order, with the understanding that you can't beat entropy.

Same here. I priced strap locks once and decided I'd rather just buy a strap for each bass. Those with skimpy strap buttons get new ones.

Planet Waves makes elliptical end pins that should work as well as strap-loks and they're about half the price. The long part of the ellipse sits at a 90 degree angle across the slit in the strap end and makes it virtually impossible to pull off.

I recently ordered a set for my Jazz Bass and my CS Nocaster and I'm very pleased with both the appearance and function. I'll be putting them on my other Tele's as well.
