Why no straplocks?

Does anybody use, or has anybody considered, using eye bolts and clips a la Gene Simmons?

I can claim about 16 year playing experience and have never come close to a bass falling of the strap or dropping one while playing standing up. Just can't figure out how we can all have had such different experiences...

When I have played in metal or punk bands I usually jump around more. Hence strap locks.
In new wave or goth bands not so much.

Here's the thing, though. And I don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet? A side benefit of straplocks is that they extend the life of the strap because it's no longer metal-to-leather, but metal-to-metal contact. I used Schallers from 1987 to 2012. Currently, I have Dunlops on my American Standard Precision. :D

But seriously, of all the matching cabs freaks on here, I am the least intense about it. If it works for you to use mixed cabs, great. All I've ever said is it's unpredictable and never as good to me as using matching cabs. But if it works for you, rock.

I was actually being serious. I know it's a different animal than what's being discussed here, but it seems to be a viable option to this newbie. Granted, I'd probably add some kind of fabric sleeve over the clips to protect the bass's finish, but other than that, I was wondering if anybody had used such a system and if there were ant drawbacks besides the obvious possible finish damage.

The weight. If it doesn't bother you, then screw in an eyebolt and try it. But at my age, every little bit of weight reduction helps because I don't have big plastic shoulder pads to take the brunt of it ;)

My position on straplocks pertains only to me. I use them for security, the lack of wear on my strap, the uniformity of being able to gig 20 basses with one strap and probably most important for me, I haven't found a quicker, easier way to mount AND dismount a strap in day-to-day use. I don't jump around and don't consider it a requirement for the neccesity of a straplock.

I use Dunlops because they work best FOR ME, are extremely durable and in over 30 years of gigging have never failed. I even have basses with them originally installed that I've had that long that still work like new.
If anyone wants to use washers, barbed wire, JB Weld, whatever, I'm cool with that. I know I can click and pull and hit the stage and the chance of my basses doing the same is pretty much nil. For me the wheel was invented when they came up with the design and it still hasn't been improved upon. YMMV
