Why no straplocks?

I disagree. Like I said, I've been playing a long time and have had certain basses for as long as 10 years and have never had a failure! Strap buttons still tight as the day I got the basses!

I ain't tryin' to change your mind or nothin', cause its your bass and your business - but with a properly sized and installed screw and positive click-in vs. an unsecured button/hole...can you explain how a StrapLokked bass isn't more secure? I understand that you haven't had a problem, but that doesn't make it as secure.

A properly installed Dunlop system is less likely to have a problem than an instrument without it. Obviously not for you but there are lots of others out there that don't have the same experience. Stuff happens and this is one way to mitigate one possible type of problem.

The problem for some folks though is that they don't install them properly. The hole for the screw should be the proper size. An oversized hole can fail with a straplock or a button. Undersized can cause the screw to bind or snap.

I put schaller locks on all my basses because I found one great strap and I enlarged the hole to fit the strap lock in. I don't like having different straps. Besides the locks give me a piece of mind

No actual preference for me. I have schaller strap locks and dimarzios.

Duct tape.

Duct tape is the worst substance in the world. If I see it anywhere near my stage, I kype it and spirit it away to the nearest trash can. Gaffer's tape - different story.

Your F Bass didn't come with Dunlops? Pretty sure all of mine did.

All three of my F Basses (two current) came with non-locking strap buttons on them. They're big, though, so I don't worry about them. See pic.

If it never falls off, it's as secure as a straplock.

Um no. I'm betting some players simply bounce around putting on 'a show', others stand and (comparatively)barely move around.

IME, it's not the stock strap button that fails, it was the hole in the leather strap that stretched and wallowed out allowing the bass to fall off.

Yes, All Parts sells Dunlop replacement body buttons w/screws sets for like 5-6 bucks per pair. They even sell a bag of 20 if you need that many.

Oh terrific! NOW you tell me! You have no idea (as boomie says) how many spare Dunlop parts I've got from buying the whole sets for new basses!

I've bought two basses that had strap lock systems installed and didn't like the rattle that occasionally came out of them.Have had a strap come of once in 32 years of playing,and that was at a rehearsal.No worries,Dude.

Exactly! I see folks using the rattiest looking straps that they've probably owned for 10-20+ years! Barely holding on to the bass! Yeah, I can see a bass go flying! I can see where strap locks come in handy in that case. I don't keep straps that long. When mine start to get worn and torn, I'm on to the next one! Strap Locks are not a necessity, IMHO!

Maybe mine were optional. Didn't realize that.

I didn't take the time to go through all the posts here (at work) but my solution is a $0.50 Neoprene ring (rubber washer) from the hardware store... Just make sure the hole is SMALLER than your strap button, place over the strap, and BOOM $1.00 gets both of them. I've never had a problem and I run around and jump and do crazy stuff with mine. And if they start to wear out, which still hasn't happened (2 years and goin strong), $1.00 is easy enough to come by...

I troll around all the time drooling at some of your guys collections, but I have one question. Why no straplocks? That and new strings are the first things I put on a new bass and my basses are mostly MIM Fenders. But some of you shell out alot of hard earned money but I rarely see straplocks on anything. So why? Do you not like the look, playing position, cost, What?

If you ain't leaping rridiculously around the stage like Flea, they ain't necessary.

With the Dunlops the strap holes don't wear out. One more reason
