Why so many fat bass players?

Good question, Joe. Of course it's very unhealthy to be overweight and I imagine all of these overweight bass players are diabetic with bad cholesterol, etc, and require daily medication. I would not live like that. I work out three times per week and eat right. I'm 170 and 6 feet tall -- have been for the past 12 years. I'm 40 years old, btw.
This thread is pointless and cruel.....but anyway I was thinking that Ann Wilson is ....ah....quite large... and she played bass with The Lovemongers.
I prefer to say that the other guys are "circumferentially challenged"...
While I'm sure not all overweight people are diabetic with blood fat issues it is no generalization to say that being overweight creates a greater likelihood of having these health issues.
Being fat is a easy way to get that little extra attention on stage. If you are skinny, nobody will ever notice you. I have never heard this frase at a concert: "Ah, look at that skinny guy playing bass!"...

It's strange because the bass is a big, and I quote, "Phat" instrument, so it does kind of match up. Maybe the big ones are just attracted to the meatier side of music?

hmmm, fat bass players, i play bass and im about 100 pounds at 5' 4", this does not bode well for me... i kinda would like to retain my slim figure, but, oh well, i think ive been getting fat anyway, so it doesnt matter.
