Why so many fat bass players?

Why is this a good idea for a thread, actually?

John Popper lost a bunch of weight a few years ago. Put a bit on since, but I think he just settled into a weight that was comfortable - but he is by no means fat, especially considering where he once was...

Good question, Joe. Of course it's very unhealthy to be overweight and I imagine all of these overweight bass players are diabetic with bad cholesterol, etc, and require daily medication. I would not live like that. I work out three times per week and eat right. I'm 170 and 6 feet tall -- have been for the past 12 years. I'm 40 years old, btw.

Cool man, do you want a cookie or something? Oh, probably not because you're too healthy for cookies. ;)
 
There is an old tale from back in the day that pay was so bad for musicians that the bassist would show up 2 hours before the gig and consume the entire rider before the other hungry muso's got there. ;)

I guess it all depends what your listening to. :D

Oh and from a personal note. Over the last year and a half. I've lost close to 70lbs :hyper:. 230lbs to 163lbs, and my tone seems to be the same :cool:.
