Why so many fat bass players?

However, in the interest of not getting (another) TOS violation and keeping TB the cool cordial place it is, I'll edit my post before I even type it.

There.

Sigged!

thats cuz we know whats best in life and cant get enough of it. im fat, happy, a bass player and proud of it.
+1 me too!

Bassists are fat coz we know we can't get chicks so we don't bother.

Here's a video of the making of a film clip for Rammstein's Keine Lust, where they dress up as fat guys, and when they get to the bassist (Ollie, bald guy with goatee) they are saying how realistic it looks etc. I found it quite funny.

Good question, Joe. Of course it's very unhealthy to be overweight and I imagine all of these overweight bass players are diabetic with bad cholesterol, etc, and require daily medication. I would not live like that. I work out three times per week and eat right. I'm 170 and 6 feet tall -- have been for the past 12 years. I'm 40 years old, btw.

Ok so its not a generalization to say being overweight increases risks for several conditions. But clearly that was not your original comment. Since you imagine all us overweight bass players are diabetic with health problems and medical issues let me assure you that while I am 5'11" and weigh an even 300lbs, I have an ideal cholestral level, perfect pulse, my liver function, blood sugar, and every other stat check out absolutely perfect. I exercise regularly, play bass with passion, and other than my weight I am in perfect health.

Was just looking at the back cover of the new BP mag. Then watched a couple of videos in current threads. Why so many fat bass players, and how come fat bass players can become famous, but not fat guitarists or singers? Does being fat make a better bass player? Like being black makes a better bass player? And being a girl makes a worse drummer? There are a lot of really great fat black bass players. Great fat white ones too. What with the fat? I wanna know.

One word...

MEATLOAF! HAHAHAHA

It gives us better tone.

Cool man, do you want a cookie or something? Oh, probably not because you're too healthy for cookies. ;)

I'm not bragging, but staying in shape is hard work! I hate to see overweight people, because it is so unhealthy -- it's not a cosmetic or vanity issue for me. Most people, if they eat right and get some exercise can maintain a healthy weight.

btw, I eat cookies, just not every day, and not the whole bag at one time :)

I'm going to assume based on your screen name that you are 31 years old. All of that extra weight is probably going to catch up with you as you get older.

Truth is maintaining a "healthy" weight is tougher for some than others. There are many factors that go into weight and health. It is wrong to assume an overweight person is that way because they are lazy and eat poorly. Unfortunately, it's one of the few "isms" that is still accepted and practiced by many on a regular basis.

I know it is very hard for some. But a healthy body is just about the most important thing one can have. It's worth nearly any amount of sacrifice and work to stay healthy!
