Why so much negativity towards Fender?

I've been seeing so many posts that bash on Fender, but I really don't understand why. Every company has some things that they don't do perfectly, but I'm mostly seeing people pick out the little things that they think Fender has been doing wrong. People talk about how much better the Lakland P and J look alikes are, but could lakland (or other fender look alike companies) even be making these basses if it wasn't for Fender? No, because Fender came up with the original design. You might say well these other companies still make it better, but they still only exist because of Fender. How long has Fender been around? We all know that it's a very long time. If Fender was as horrible of a company as some people here make it sound like, they wouldn't still be around.

lewl. i haven't read the last page but this is a pretty interesting view. You're saying that because fender did it first, and other companies improved on it- fender is automatically better? At no point does 'history' or 'originality' effect quality of an instrument. Your statement of fender being better because of their large market- that's like saying that the music on the radio and mtv are is the best of the best because they're on the air.

haha, had to edit in that religious pot-shot, eh?

Nah, just an example of "belief"....and that it relates to everything in life. We believe what we choose to believe.

Example : Lots of people say Buicks suck. My Dad has a Buick, therefore it "must" suck, right ? Well, his Buick has nearly 400,000 miles on it and is still going strong. So he believes that Buicks are great cars, regardless of what others might say.

I was thinking of that pic (Jay Scott's book, if I remember). Leo'd probably say, "I told ya decals were better!"

I doubt if Joe Nerve is feeling downtrodden about anything. I think his bass playing speaks for itself. How does your Bassman amp sound? I have a similar one not in working order. I might like to get that fixed some day. Mine is a mid-60s blackface Fender Bassman, but it's pretty beat up.

It sounds pretty good. I don't use it much recently since I have a couple Ampeg B25's now. I keep it around due to its reputation as a guitar head and it gets use that way in one shape or form. Looking for a V4B or SVT, but money's not there and my bass collection keeps growing.

LOL!!!!

Share that little joke with Apple and Xerox PARC.....

after you finish the koolaide, of course!:D

Richard Stallman would get a kick out of it too, now that I think of it.

Sorry to the OP for the off topic conversation...

...but there are courts and licenses that exist to protect stealing of code. If Apple, Xerox, Sun, Stallman, whomever want to sue MS, they should go right ahead. Sun did, and settled out of court after several years of wrangling for MS breaking their Java VM. If a company chooses to not pursue litigation, then it's not stealing code, the owner is allowing it. Many business take ideas, change them and make something new out of them, the whole open source software community is built on that concept.

Anyway, this is all besides my point... which was actually on topic.

Where you called people a-holes. Yeah, I get it. And then you whine! Waah, poor Boosterdex...:crying::crying::bawl::bawl:
But very clever circumvention of forum rules. Too-shay.

I mentioned that in my opinion I can't tell much of a difference, if any, between an MIM and MIA bass. So where is the huge increase in price justified between the two? I would have ZERO issue with paying a premium price if there were an obvious step up between the two. But I just don't see/hear that being the case with the examples I have tried.

You missed the point.

And to answer your question. If I put on a sub par performance then yes, I would deserve a lower wage. Just like if I put on a great performance then I feel I deserve a higher wage. Would you expect a premium wage for a mediocre performance?

And...you missed the point again. Hey, keep it coming. Some do not prefer Fenders, but you are giving us a clear picture of the Fender-hater.

Wow, that's messed up. :D:D:D

It's not quite that simple. First I doubt Richard Stallman cares how much of his code was taken by MS -- Linus Torvalds either. But even if they did, I doubt even they have the resources to really fight MS. It doesn't mean it's not stealing just because the victim chooses not to prosecute in court. As far as the open source stuff, it is all protected by one license or another -- GNU, BSD, etc... With the GNU license, a party is free to take the code for a derivative work, but they must then make the source code available to any one to whom they distribute the new program. With the BSD license -- pejoratively referred to as the welfare license -- the code can be taken for derivative works, and the source code does not have to be provided if distributed -- that's why Apple took the FreeBSD kernel for OSX, btw. Microsoft has a long history of illegal and underhanded activity to grow their half baked OS in the market place, and only the Federal government has been big enough to mount any sort of real challenge to the Malfeasance -- even if they just would up paying lip service! There is absolutely no similarity between Fender and Microsoft -- and to the extent they are disliked/hated it is for different reasons!

I see alot of talk about the Fender basses being priced to high for what they are. Keep in mind Fender is one of the last truely USA made guitars their is. All these other companys such as Lakland, Sadowsky, and Lull all use off shore parts on their basses. The Fender American Standard bass truely uses all parts that are manufactured in the USA. Your paying for a quality USA made product when you get a Fender, not a cheap imitation.
Don't get me wrong Lakland, and Sadowsky make great basses as well, but they are mainly a copy of a Fender with some of their parts being made offshore. Why pay for an imitation when you can own the real thing?

Apparently you didn't comprehend my post. Either of them actually. But that's ok. I will not stoop as low as to get into an argument with you or anyone else on an internet forum. If you took my "a-hole" comment as a dig at you then you are mistaken. By pointing you out as an example I was referring to the some of the Fender fans who take any opportunity to point and down the non-Fender person. And if I offended you, then my apologies. I'm fine with agreeing to disagree because it seems there is no middle ground with you.
