This thread has "fail" all over it anyway. It would be cool if it could become somehow productive, but it seems pretty self-defeating.

He is clearly a major force in the band. From what I've seen of performance clips, the dude plays with a lot of conviction and frankly reminds me of Steve Harris in his ability to lead with ego. He doesn't stand in the shadows, he wants to be seen and heard. I admire that, but I can't say he's inspired me in any way. I think he has an interesting approach to bass tone.

He seems very "type A" and probably a hassle to be in a band with. But I could be wrong

Ive seen countless threads people bashing on how Fieldy, how all the click clack gets on your nerves, yes he might not be the most skilled bassist by far, even ill admit he never goes past the 12th fret on the A and D dropped strings and half the time hes not even playing notes but just muting the strings and using them to create "clicks" but geez if he made it that far just by trying a certain technique that no other band that ive heard uses, maybe that leaves some hope for the rest of us:), seriously though I see how people also rant about how hes a drugee or a drunk but really what does that have to do anything with his bass playing, I even saw a post were a certain TB member went as far as to say that he was happy that he would live longer than Fieldy(utter lies unless you have a fricking time machine which will allow you to see the future), What does that even have to do with HIS BASS PLAYING, seriously though his sound might not be everyone's cup of tea, but he hasnt done anything as bad as to deserve the disrespect he gets around here, and for the few of us that do like his sound and actually incorporate it into our bands rock on!!!!!:bassist: ( yes I know some of you say im never going to be taken as a serious musician by using his sound and style, but if I had been wanting to become a "serious musician" I would have stayed in our high school band playing and learning things I hated, personally I now play what floats my boat and thats good enough for me:D)

I think you are misunderstanding what is going on here!

So - as somebody who has been on TB since the beginning, I agree that Fieldy has always been a standing joke.

But it has not been down to his music, playing etc. - but rather due to his fans!! ;)

What has happened is that TalkBass has often been plagued by "Trolls" who have tried to disrupt the community and post rubbish - but in the early days of TB what was noticable was that these people always seemed to have usernames like :

"FieldyRulez56879" etc. etc.

So most of the TB "regulars" had no opinion on Fieldy himself - I had never even heard a single track and wouldn't have known he existed, apart from TB!

But it is the "Fieldy Fanz" who have tarnished his reputation on TB!! :p

Actually it's more like 666FiElDyRuLeZ666.

I remember some magazine stated he was the best bassist in the world. LOL

Probably Kerrang or some other such tripe though.

I remember a thread on here in which a guy stated we don't like fieldy, or whatever we're calling him now, because he could sleep with all our girlfriends/wives. Sometimes Korn fans give the band a bad name, its usually because they're fairly young and haven't learned how to articulate a debate.

I find the man fairly pointless and will continue to ignore his existence.

Hey, you guys should stop dissing Fieldy. He is actually an awesome player.

I saw his instructional DVD recently; jaw-dropping command of the fretboard, tasteful and restrained lines that gave 'space' to the backing music of the jazz ensemble accompanying him. He spoke thoughtfully about what bass meant to him and was genuinely humble at being blessed with the opportunities he has had, as an artist and lover of the creative arts in general.

I am lying of course, he's crap.
