Will 80' styles ever come back into style?

I think the 80's retro style is upon us already. With bands like Trivum playing the 80's style basses. I see more and more bassist using ESP's and BC Rich's live. Even the bassist from Hatebreed is using a Jackson and I think he has a signature bass too.

Look at what Warwick is doing, it's a sign of the time. Bring on the Metal!!!!:bassist:

It seems like it could very likely happen, in my opinion. In the 90s, when I was in high school, a friend of mine had a Hagstrom. We all thought it was hilarious, and at that point, the idea that it would ever be worth anything was pretty far fetched. Years down the road, a bunch of hip guys in disco-punk bands started using them, and now you can't get them for cheap if you try. And it seems like a lot of the low end 60s and 70s off-brand stuff has also had that same luck.

If the prices on all that ludicrous 80s gear drops below a certain point, eventually it'll be too good a deal to ignore. A bunch of people will start using them because of how distinct they are, and then boom, it'll be huge again.

oh nooooo...
tunes like..
Ghost Busters
You can't touch this (super freak)
Miami Vice theme
the Human League- don't, don't you want me.

fashions like...
big hair
bright colors and triangle & square patterns
shoulder pads and power dressing women
grey shoes and thin leather ties

argggghh torture !!!!!:rollno::atoz:

I also think if they keep dropping in price, they will become great deals and then it's only a matter of time until some new musician becomes famous that uses that kind of instrument because it was cheap but good, and looked funny.
But right now I can't imagine what genre will revive this stuff, maybe some futuristic electro-pop-punk in the year 2020 will be played on vintage BC Rich basses and Casio DG-20 guitars.
And their distinctive look will certainly get you attention.

So keep you 80s beauties, one day they will be the vintage stuff everyone wants.

Edit: And don't forget Steinberger guitars and basses :D

I hope so. :hyper:

You can keep the fashion and the big hair bands but there was also some great music, and some great basslines, going on in the 80's

Simple Minds
U2
The Jam
Elvis Costello
Thomas Dolby
Japan
Tears for Fears
To name but a few

And don't forget the basslines that Pino was pumping out for Paul Young and Go West etc

A lot of the 80's music was bland or twee or overblown or the deperate last hurrah for some bands, but it wasn't a complete musical desert...much like any other decade you could care to name really

Ehn most of the 80s sucked, but you had good things like thrash metal, 80's rush and good tv. Some of the pop wasn't even bad.....come on super freak and thriller are pretty good tunes no matter how manufactured they are they get your butt moving.

I have a fantastic bass with an amazing tone, and beautiful body wood, the only thing i don't like is the pointy headstock....and i love metal, not cheesy metal basses though. Got a great jazz fusion jazz tone tday
