Will Smith just threw a $50m punch

I actually feel bad for Will because he clearly lost it and did something he now really wishes he hadn't, in THE most public way imaginable.
He always seemed like an exceptionally positive & "together" kind of guy but apparently he's a flawed human being - just like the rest of us.
I'm not normally into the Oscars or celebrity gossip. But I am passionate about comedy, and I hate to see how the climate for it is becoming ever-increasingly more oppressive.
Toward that end, I disagree very strongly with those who were applauding the slap. (Even if one finds that "GI Jane" quip to be horrendously mean - which I didn't.)
But I also don't think WS should go to jail or have his entire career ****canned. Some form of atonement short of those things is needed, and I think it's good of him to be acknowledging that.
So I do hope Will pulls through. Maybe I'll enjoy going out to see MIB4.
In the shorter term, I definitely want to see Chris Rocks's next special.

Roaster? I didn't realize it was a roast. I don't pay much attention to these award shows but I don't believe there's a 'Roast" built into them. I could be wrong.

At a roast, all bets are off. Everyone is fair game and it's expected to get ripped upon. Chris probably shouldn't have made the joke and the slap was obviously uncalled for.

However, I view the slap as mostly for show. Will could have knocked Chris into 2023 if he wanted to but he more or less gave Chris a love tap.

This little skirmish has been blown way out of proportion IMO.

Honest answer to an honest question is yes. My two female friends who had it would not wear a wig, because they are a hassle and are not comfortable to wear at all. One friend preferred to wear a bandana on her head, and the other friend just walked around bald - she did not shave her head, she literally had no hair at all.

If you are an actress who is used to wearing a wig for work, you might be able to afford one of higher quality that feels a bit better on the scalp, but I imagine they're still not as comfortable as wearing your own hair.

I had a boss who kept her hair shaved short - I am not sure if she also had alopecia because we never got that personal but I do know she had another autoimmune condition. She did wear wigs to work, and the first thing she did when she got in her car was whip that bad boy off at the end of the day.

I imagine it might be a bit like something you won't relate to (I guess) which is wearing a bra. It's a bit of an annoying thing that women get used to having to do because of social norms, but we don't like it and we don't hesitate to get rid of it at the earliest opportunity each day.

It was also suggested to my husband that he try wigs - men's wigs always look fake, so that was a big NO for him.

I’d buy this if The “subject’s wife” was just that; but, she is an active actress, in the industry, in Hollywood and would, to me, be fair game. Also, why aren’t you saying the same for Javier Bardem as Rock went after his wife too? Or I was she ‘fairer game’ as she was nominated for an award?

Even very rough crowds have boundaries, you don’t mock wives or someone’s kids. Will damaged his career but it’s not ok to joke about a spouse’s illness. The Oscar Academy is pretending outrage over violence, but how can they really, it’s their bread and butter.

This made me think about the Roast where Martha Stewart went after everybody on the stage. She even brought down the house with a bit about Shaquille O'Neal's mother. I'd post it, but the language alone would get me banned. But if you want to see merciless roasting, Google "Martha Stewart Roasts Shaq's Mom"... It was unexpectedly hilarious.

Normally I'd comment that family, including spouses, is off limits for joking, but Jada is the one wearing the pants in that relationship.
Will just got too big for his britches, which is what Denzel tried to tell him, but it glanced off.

I heard about the incident on the radio news as I was driving home from work, so I made a point of tuning in to the TV news that evening.

I sat there watching, listening intently to Chris Rock. I heard the GI Jane remark and eagerly awaited the offensive joke. The camera cut to Smith who seemed to be laughing at the GI Jane remark, then cut to vision of Smith walking up and belting Rock, then back to Smith, now back in his seat, bellowing at Rock. It dawned on me that the GI Jane remark WAS THE OFFENSIVE JOKE and I was left thinking "That was it? You've got to be kidding..."

I realized I'd just watched Smith lose the plot completely, assault someone on national television and ostensibly tank his career over remarks that at worst were mildly offensive; remarks that could have/should have been dealt with via a quiet chat between the parties concerned - after the show.
