It is the only bass I've ever played where you could get the action too low to play...without buzz. It wasn't buzzing, it was just too low!

The wooden pickup covers were made by Carey Nordstrand, the knobs were also added by me...I got them from Larry at Gallery Hardwoods.

Right now I've got Bart Classic X44CB's in the bass, an ebony ramp, and a plexiglass 1/2 pickguard on it....so it looks a little different.

It's bolt-on.

Hey sha...a few people have sent me emails wondering if you have any relationship with Ray/R-Basses beyond being a satisfied customer. They just observed that most of your posts are about R's.

You could probably put it to rest by just posting about yourself and telling us who you are. :) There isn't anything wrong with posting as an R-Bass fan, but the CUP rules come into play if you have some other relationship with the company/builder (I think).

I may be selling one of my Rbasses as I was talking to Ray last night around 12 midnight I just made a deal to purchase 2 more from Ray so one may have to go. I'll probably sell the purple heart if interested. Its so hard to figure out which one I want to sell because their all so great. Now don't quote me on that because I want to keep them all but with me just buying a new home I may have to part with one of my beautys to bring home 2 more. I guess you can call this a feeler on who may be interested. Send me those PM's.

No relationship at all I live in GA and he stay in Puerto Rico. I've only been in GA for 2 years and I'm originally from the southside of Chicago. I've never met the guy and for that matter don't even know how he looks(although he did just tell me that he was bald)LOL. Most of my post are about R's because thats all I play. I've sold the Ken's, Fodera, Benavente's, MTD etc.... Because I feel that I've found the perfect bass. I'm no different than anyone else who post about there favorite Luthier. I believe that everyone makes a big deal when they see threads about Rbasses because of the issue with "the Fodera look a like." There are many Tber's who own Rbasses and are afraid to say they do because of this issue. Well I'm a true fan of Ray's and I believe that he doesn't get enough reconition in the bass world and as a Christian brother I feel I owe him this respect because to me he's been nothing but kind, responsible, and caring to me. Furthermore, he's just as good as any top notch luthier and at half the price and thats what I'm impressed with. Ray doesn't know that Im posting this and hasn't put me up to posting or spaming for him. I'll let his work speak for itself. I'm just happy to post my babies. By the way I've only posted 2 threads on Rbasses. To sum things up, Yes I'm a ligit satisified customer and I've sold plenty highend basses on ebay with a perfect feedback rating. Check me out. Also to prove that I'm a legit customer, I just purchased that 6 string on the left-hand side of the picure from Ray. Another Tber's owned that bass and sent it back because the neck was to fat or thick and from my understanding that was how the customer ordered it but never pick it up or something like that. Anyhow I had the neck shaved down, refinished and sent to me however, I believe its still a little thick for my taste. I'm use to those superthin necks that Ray builds on his new guitars now. Anyhow just to show you what kind of person Ray is, I told him of my concern and he offered to build me a new thinner neck with the same wood combo in 2 weeks time. Just thought I'd tell you that because I figured that you could do a search and see that someone else owned that bass first.

Hey man, cool...I really don't have any problem with the posts at all (heck, I love R-Basses as much as anybody)...I just figured I'd ask lest anyone speculate about it. In my experience, Ray definitely builds up there with the best. I wish he would work out the business aspect of it so more people can access his work. I'm glad he is moving away from the heavily Fodera-influenced (or copies, sometimes) designs and towards something unique and all his own.

Does Ray have anybody working with him or is he the only one in the shop? Just curious as to how big his operation is.

That's funny,
I just asked Ray that question yesterday and he stated that he was a 1 man operation and that he averages making 2-3 bass a month. He then stated that it was somewhat a problem because most people that contacts him always wants him to rush making them a guitar because they have no clue as to how long it would take. And believe me, the reason he was telling this is because I was rushing him myself. I was telling him how anxious all of us bass players are to know that we are getting a new bass.
