Only if you are measuring percentage by weight.

Mind you, the "surface area" alternative would allow a walnut veneer front and back to make darn near anything else in the sammich more than 65% by area. Of course that might be seen by the voters as meeting the letter but not the spirit, and thus get less votes...

Sammich, bolt on, carve out of a single piece arrrrhgghhhh!!!!

My leading candidate is a 5 string Thunderbird sammich with flamed walnut, paduk stringers, and thin black accents on the stringers

At the moment I've got a couple of body shapes drawn (all single-cuts) and am looking at a driftwood top, separated by a walnut core and walnut back by maple and walnut veneers. Neck so far is looking like a multi-lam walnut with maple and walnut sapwood veneers, a walnut headstock with body-matching headplate, bound walnut fretboard, and possibly block inlays, walnut nut/string guide with zero fret. Set neck, but possibly bolt on.

I've got some six string hardware and pickups already, so this will probably be a six, but I may take a crack at making my own headless hardware and doing a small headstock instead.

Now that I've written this all out, I expect it will completely change... :D

Definitely in the same boat here hahaha! And yeah it's good to know that everyone is having the same trouble with figuring out specs.

Nice. That would totally get my vote. Even though you only have 20% walnut in the neck, you have 90% in the body, so that has to result in a composite score of 65%, right? :roflmao:


Edit: when I say “get my vote”, I’m lying of course. I’m voting for myself, obviously. :cool:

I remain dubious that I'll actually get my waterfowl linearly arranged, but in my typically roundabout fashion I have ordered one supply I'll be wanting, if the ebay vendor is good. 12K whoops, 24K carbon tow inbound...(thanks to Bruce for putting that one in my head in the course of someone else asking about CF reinforcements.)

24K Might be a tad overkill size-wise, I guess, but I'll roll with it. Looking more at the price and less at the filament-count when shop came to buy. Mea Culpa. I guess I'll see how wieldy or unwieldy that size is.
