Honestly, with the creativity and talent in this forum, I think even that could be exciting. Bear with me for a minute here and imagine if we had a build off with only two constraints: 1) must be black, 2) must have a p-bass pickup - everything else up for grabs! I bet we would get some pretty awesome stuff.
Ok that sounds like it would be fun, and as an added bonus make it so it wasn't just the prettiest wood wins. We did a $100 challenge a few years back.Build a bass of any style that you choose with anything that you choose for X Dollars?....(Shrugs)...

Not sure if it has been done here before, but, any interest in a reclaimed/recycled/repurposed theme?
Like, "this bass is constructed from my great-great-grandmother's rocking chair" or some such?
Totally not suggesting it because I have dozens of feet of reclaimed cedar beams that I want to build a bass out of...
