Maybe I'll watch it over the weekend instead of making templates. The deadline is weeks away, I have plenty of time.

This is what I told myself when I was little. But Saskatchewan, a province in the Canadian midwest, has never had daylight savings. My dad told me that when he was a boy, the cows would get up at dawn and want to head to pasture. That didn't change regardless of what "time" it was, so hence farmers never bothered with daylight savings. Might be a myth, but I've always loved that reason. :D

I was born in Saskatchewan and then moved away and had to deal with DST. It's so ill-conceived that I still can't figure out what it is trying to do. One thing is for sure, it's got nothing to do with farming!

Here's what wikipedia says:

"Industrialized societies usually follow a clock-based schedule for daily activities that do not change throughout the course of the year. The time of day that individuals begin and end work or school, and the coordination of mass transit, for example, usually remain constant year-round. In contrast, an agrarian society's daily routines for work and personal conduct are more likely governed by the length of daylight hours[4][5] and by solar time, which change seasonally because of the Earth's axial tilt."

So basically, we can blame it on office workers and students.

There is hope though. An Ottawa MPP put forward a bill to go to a single timezone all year round, and it received all-party support and royal assent. But there is a big hitch: it requires NY and Quebec to scrap daylight savings also. Who knows how long that will take. @RichterScale, can you sign New York up for it?

So, my understanding is that the theory was that it would shift the daylight hours earlier in the day, not so farmers could heard cattle, but so children could help tend to the farm before heading to school. So it has way less to do with what time the cows get up, but whether or not little Johnny can help feed the chickens without doing so in the dark before his school bus arrives.

Sound theory, maybe 50 or 60 years ago. But even in my home state of Texas, I'm pretty sure little Johnny isn't doing any farm chores before heading off to school these days. :cautious: :meh:

Speaking of templates, I have a nice piece of flat 3/4 MDF that's laminated on either side with a thin, tough, plasticky type surface. It was the platform for a treadmill.
Not sure if I should use it for an updated router sled base, or hack it up for templates.

If it's the really slick surface, I would do the router sled. I made mine out of unfinished pine and hate life when I'm trying to use it. Theres a piece in my garage that's probably similar to what you have that I'll use down the road. My current setup is really rough...
