Winter Build Off 2022 - Get Ready

Oh! That reminds me,....
I cut down an old apple tree last year.
There's 2 larger logs, one is 3-4' long, 10"+ in dia. The other one is maybe 3' long, 8" dia.
I threw the smaller one in the van last night and I'm gonna see if I can cut it into slabs at work later. Not sure how dry it is or what the grain looks like yet.... or what I'll use it for, but I really want to use it for something.

What happened?!
It was five years ago, but lightning hit a tree in front of my house and followed the "invisible" dog fence wire into the house. My music studio caught fire from the lightning strike. I lost something like 15 basses (most of them were ones I made). It was a bummer, but ultimately I recovered and I'd say that the basses I have now are far better than those that burned up. I'll admit looking at that picture again (I haven't seen it in years) brought back a little bit of sorrow.

Me too. That was a terrible experience to share with you. :(

That's horrible.
I changed my mind. I don't wanna know. Take it back!
As soon as you said lightning, I got a sick feeling.

Ow. That sucks. Sorry for the earlier smart remark.
I'd be completely gutted if that happened to me and I lost the XL2. It was a gift from my late wife, and the only thing of hers I still have. I lost everything else in a (deliberately set) fire in 99. Everything else could be replaced.

Ouch. Everyone says "it's only things" and they are 100% right, we were lucky in that no person or dog was hurt in our fire. But losing everything is still not pleasant. We kept what keepsakes we could, but realistically most of that will need to be thrown away, the smell never comes off certain things. The pictures hurt the worst.

A few more minutes with that chainsaw and you will have the wood all cut. You will also be well on your way to holding the record for the heaviest bass in the 2022 winter build off!
The center log is literally 200+ lbs. So some sort of weight reduction will be necessary. I'm thinking of hiring a woodpecker to help chamber the body :smug:
