I'm going with a jazz set for 2 reasons. 1)Most sets are about the same size when I want to swap out for something else. 2) I 3d modeled and 3d printed router templates for the jazz cavities.

I'm sanding the black walnut fretboard.
Questions:
I'm up to 400gt sand paper. I'm working up to 800gt.
How high of grit should I go?
Finish. I see a few of you using rub on varnishes. Will I need a filler?

Gorgeous... 800 is probably pretty good. For walnut with something like wipe on poly, I usually put it on and do a sanding slurry with the last grit I used to fill the grain a bit. Depends on how filled you like it.

Glued up the fretboard to the neck. And the pin gave me time to use my wife's yoga bands to wrap around the neck nice and tight. The camps are just for good measure.

I think the advice @Beej gave is solid. I kind of feel like going much past 400 grit is overkill, but I see lots of people going way up into super fine grits. I guess it depends on what kind of finish you plan to use, but my opinion is, 400 is fine. There comes a point where you are no longer sanding, but burnishing.

While the fretboard and neck glue set for a extra day. I started laying out my bass in my body.
Found the center line. And I'm tweaking the layout get it nailed down.

Just a broken rib? I had a sliver for like 2 days that I couldn't get out and I just fought through it. This is the WBO dammit.

I won't quit.
I let the neck finger board sit for a few days after glue up. I needed to do some light leveling.
Here is the crazy gran pattern in the middle of the fret board.

After work I went out and finally cut out the body shape from the blank. Back in side with the hand tools tonight.
