I got "creative" I bore out the inside of pickup covers. I trimmed each side of the split pass pickup. I trimmed down the bobbins.

How many polyurethane coats should I do on my fretboard? It has a really nice thickness now. I'm on the fourth coat. It is curly black walnut. I'm thinking I should just let it cure for the next 3-4 days and see. Any input?

I’d do 8-10 thin layers so you can buff and polish without worrying too much about burn through.

Ok worked in the pick up covers cleaned up the routing in the cavities. Sanded....and sanded... And you get the idea.

Side question? What should I used to embed the pickups? Wax? Silicone?

Wax, in all seriousness, is easy to place and remove again if ever needed by melting it. You could also do that with rosin but it's much stickier.

If you're sure you're sure you're never going in there again, epoxy.

Silicone has approximately zero benefits and is too viscous for a good potting, unless you special order thin stuff intended for potting.

I am sure that I don't like this part. Just because of the lack of experience. But I'm taking my time. And it is kinda meditative. This is a great break after a 12 day looking at Cinema 4d and animating fire.

For the time being the neck is 98% done. I did the leveling and polishing. I scuffed up the fretboard around a fret when filing.
I'll fix that tomorrow.

Made a tight fitting curly maple string nut. And a truss rod cover from the same blank of curly maple.

Working on hand sanding down the sides deep scratches with 120.on the upper wing on the back there is some tight grain cracks. And input to stabilize?

Yeah... sanding end grain sucks.

You could weep thin viscosity super glue in the cracks. Are you using a grain filler? If so epoxy might be a good choice because it can get in there and secure things from ever expanding further.

What's the plan for finishing? That might dictate what product goes into the cracks.

I'd probably go with the super glue

Seeing how it's checking across the grain, it's nearly impossible to make it disappear visually (unless you paint).
I agree with getting some thin CA in there to form a bond. The sooner you get a finish on there and seal it up to stop moisture moving in and out (mostly out), the better.
