Thanks for running this Beej! It gave me more push to go extra in details on this build. This bass ended up having really nice bottom end with a ton of tonal options. The band and my spouse(bass owner)love the sonic profile it has so this little bass will be going on a mini tour in July on salt spring and vancouver island (brentwood bay music fest)

Cool, I'll keep my eyes peeled for it - I usually hit all the local festivals with my kids.

This was a really cool WBO, it's always interesting to see the variations on a theme, the ingenuity, the workmanship, there's nothing I don't enjoy about it

Don't think that's been done. Use recycled or reclaimed materials has been suggested in the past, but not done as far as I know.

The $100 challenge was done quite a few years ago. I like the idea, but I wouldn’t personally participate, since I don’t really want to play a bass that’s built down to a price point. Anything I build for myself would almost certainly cost more; otherwise I wouldn’t spend my time….

I do like building to a target, and I like to reduce, reuse, recycle and repurpose, buuuut... I often put upwards of $1000 into parts and electronics, so the $100 is a bit tricky for me too. But making a "cheap" instrument or doing the reduce/reuse thing might still make for an interesting theme.

I think if a recycle theme were used hardware and electronics would have to be exempt. I, as much as the idea appeals to me personally, think there would be less participation because of the restriction. The idea of "be inspired by..." has come up too. Points of potential inspiration range from nature to cars and transportation, to works of art.

It's probably obvious that I'm into the recycle/reuse theme, I also dig the "inspired by" idea.

I actually have a build planned that is "inspired by" so that would work out for me! It would also fit into the reuse/recycle theme, so I'm good either way!

The "recycle/reuse" theme is kind of a repeat, because that's how a lot of people interpreted the "renewal/rebirth" theme.

Purpose build a bass for a specific function/genre/player.

The builder dictates what the bass is the best bass for.

Sure, why not? You have to explain why it's the best bass for you, maybe you need lightweight, maybe you love a specific aesthetic, or play a specific style. Whatever it is you'd design and build the best bass for that.
