It's amazing how ten wood screws and a few pieces of metal can just sit on the bench and wait. And wait. And wait. And wait…
Good eyes my friend! I actually install the logo just slightly below the surface of the headstock on purpose. That way, I have a little bit of cushion during final sanding to remove any residual epoxy from the glue-up, without scuffing up the inlay itself. And as part of that final sanding, the headstock veneer will be leveled completely flush with the surface of the inlay. I'm hoping I have some time later tonight to get this finished up.
A few hours of sanding later, and the neck and body are ready for first coats of finish. I've gone over the whole thing with the magnifying lenses and hit it with mineral spirits in an attempt to sniff out any remaining file marks.
As part of the final sand, the headstock veneer is leveled flush with the logo medallion.
Here we go, let the finish begin! I've installed the body into my state-of-the-art finishing jig. I'll do a final check for any remaining areas in need of sanding, then hit it with a wash coat of spirits, followed by a first coat of Seal A Cell.
First coal of Seal a Cell is applied. Tomorrow morning I'll look for any remaining sanding spots, touch those areas up, and then hit it with another sealing coat.

I am not a fan of figured woods nor maple in general, but that is just spectacular.

The fingerboard is taped off and the whole bass will get a coat of Seal-A-Cell.

With the shop set up for finishing mode, I'm going to tackle both the new tiger twin and the jazz body I've been meaning to complete since 2014 or so.
My nine-year old apprentice has been carefully studying the triple step dye process, so he's going to take the lead on the jazz bass.
First, the whole topwood gets two nice coats of dark Mission brown.
