The battery compartment is routed out today and the notches for the covers are recessed.
The bridge is final positioned and drilled for screws, and the bridge wired is drilled as well. I've also connected all the cavities with this long-shaft bit.
The rear cutaway is roughed out using the angle grinder and then sanded on the rotary.

Thanks! Almost 15 years of refinement on the build process and it's still a continuous improvement effort. It occurs to me as well - this bass build is a great example of why I don't do custom commissions. With a few exceptions, most of this instrument has been made in five to 10 minutes increments of free time here or there throughout the course of a week. It's forced me to become extremely efficient. But it's also hard to maintain any real momentum.
The top is wetted down with some spirits as the inspection for scratches begins. The rays of this topwood are even deeper than on the other bass, and it's taking a lot more work to level them all out.
Yeah this maple is really something else. I wish the photos did justice to it! It was only after I started applying oil to the already finished twin that all sorts of quilt became visible along with the flame. It's just so striking, and the whole entire thing moves depending on the angle of the light that hits it.
Cavity cover magnets are epoxied into place.
Lots of maple to final sand! In addition to the main Tiger bass, I'm also going to get this jazz bass finished up (finally!). This thing has been sitting in my shop for something like eight or nine years and I never got around to completing it. Such a slacker!!!
The body is sanded up to 320 and the maple is almost bleached looking at this point. I'll vacuum and then wet the whole thing down and then look for scuffs or machining lines. Like this one.
I'm hip, took me almost a year to get my last P assembled, and that was just changing out the pups/bridge/neck...
