Just thought I’d show the fretboard that I got from last years build off. Roasted Birdseye.

<snip> That said I think we're over thinking this and we should allow both pre fab necks and unshaped laminated neck blanks and trust the good people of the LC to act with integrity.

I am good with this, and I am comfortable with the mindset of the people here in the LC!

Any objections?

Ok, I'm going to take this one step further - can we further define air space? I chamber almost all the basses I make, but I wouldn't think of many of them as "air space" - though they fit the criteria as stated.

Should we specify that you have to be able to see into at least one chamber? or that the area underneath the top needs to be at least 50% space?

Overthinking things AGAIN!

as examples:
this one is clearly not "air space", but is chambered heavily:

No problem discussing this now, actually prefer it

I have 4 categories listed
Acoustic
Semi Hollow
Hollow
Chambered

Do we need to go into great detail? I'm thinking not. I think we all know what these are

It's just that your build should make use of one of the 4 categories

I'm reluctant to define a percentage. It didn't work well for for a past build.

I'm differentiating the difference between Acoustic and Hollow Body as Hollow body has electronics.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't bother categorizing, I would just say that it needs to have a visible element of air space or acousticity. Wether that's as little as a thin line tele or as much as a full acoustic or the skeltonized bass that Rojo posted I don't think matters.

That could be cool, everything from traditional sound holes & F holes to this kinda stuff:

I think it also adds a bit more of a design challenge. At least one chamber has to be clean and presentable (under the hole(s) at least :D)
