Winter Buildoff 2019 Voting - Final

Was just thinking....
I can't play this year... but surely I can find a day to do this....

IF... you all like the idea of an "award" as a prize...
....Like a TBLC "Luthiers Guild Award" type thing...?
I would volunteer... to laser etch such an award... as a plaque. On nice wood..... probably with some inlay... (I got a ton of Ablam scrap ):smug:

Are you kidding? “A ton of Abalam scrap” would make a great prize! :roflmao:

The prizes don't matter so much to me, it's the fun and community in the competition.

I'm also fine with the competitors refraining from voting - it's better to have the public vote, even though they will always vote for the prettiest, so @Scoops and @rojo412 will win anyway. :D

It would be nice to have some corporate sponsorship, even if it's just a mention in their newsletter or online materials.

I'd like to see a link to the build-off either on the TB splash page, or maybe at the top of the Basses subforum? Maybe that's a bit cheeky, but it seems that lots of TBers would enjoy watching the competition, and it strikes me that still so many people have no idea it's even happening. :) Maybe that's my bias though?

Getting more to enter - I'm not sure how to best promote it...I'm bad at that kind of stuff...maybe invitations to builders? Private messages or mentions to every TB member we can think of who has ever posted a build in the LC or elsewhere? Inviting a wide range of "serious" commercial builders to join up (imagine seeing a Fodera employee/apprentice joining or the like). That could seriously up the game and make builds like mine much less relevant... :D

Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting the builders refrain from voting all together, rather, just not vote for themselves

I MarieKondo'd my shop today and was able to put together a start. :smug:

Happy fall equinox.
I think we are set on the theme, so thanks all for your input
A little later this week I'll reaching out to various places to get more participation in the build off

Now that we got 3 months for planning, I got one design I'm considering....it's a Ripper....well.....sorta....so I'll call it a Scooper
To be true to the composition of a Grabber, this will be all maple. Just looking for the right FB.
Probably go with block position markers (not shark tooth) on the FB, maybe in tourmaline, or obsidian.

Cheers

Ya really want to call it "The Scooper" given the other rhyming word often attached to "scooper" ? Just my $0.002.

That’s better - you have high standards to live up to, you know!

The nice thing about doing the design work on the computer is I can find stuff out early, rather than on the fly like I used to.

I really want to use this design, but it may not be maple in construction

The piece I have for the top will will only be good for a 14" lower bout. My design is 14.65"

I may go walnut :drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:
