Winter NAMM 2017 (ultra Pic-heavy)

In my experience it's best to get there early on the opening Thursday to avoid the thickest of the crowds. Then if you have any of the bass performance events ( like the Bass Bash or the Bass Jam ) you wish to attend offsite it's best to leave the show floor an hour before they close ( at 5:00pm ) so you can get a great seat at those performances. Friday the show floor crowd tends to thicken and I avoid the Saturdays completely now as the crowds then commonly get to literal wall to wall proportions. Sunday has more of a "breakdown and get out of there" type feeling to it but some like it for trying to get cheaper prices on the gear for sale which hasn't sold yet.
Most of these pics[of mine anyway] were from Thurs/Fri. Today [Sat] it is a complete madhouse ,tons of stars doing signings at booths,and you can barely walk. Sun is a bit better crowd wise,and if you play your cards right,you might be able to snag a bass....if you have the $$$

Yes - the HB8 has been around a little while now though; gets mixed but mostly favorable reviewsas far as i can tell. Want one.
Uhhhh, ESPECIALLY if you're going to make fanned-fret basses, try not to make your new logo look just like somebody rotated a Dingwall logo like 75 degrees counterclockwise and called it a day.
I have no idea why I love this bass so much. Graphics? Really? FRACTAL graphics? But I love it. Maybe put regular pup covers on to break it up a bit.

I was going to ask if the Thundercat was finally going to be available. Not that I'm looking for one...Whew, I feel like I just unloaded a Mack truck full of pics and in the Ibanez section something caught my eye. The Thundercat looks like it's going to be available so I showed my wife and asked, can I ?

Directed at @MarkoYYZ - Wow, the longscale and shortscale K look exactly the same size! I would go for the shorty, but it's shifted out to the left due to the extra frets, so the horn is at 15 instead of 12 like it is on the regular scale - if first position is in exactly the same place physically I might as well look at the regular scale version.
NAMM isn't a guitar show. Its an industry trade show with every category of music equipment, effects, PA systems, lighting, accessories, strings, straps, financing companies, etc. It isn't open to the public.
I like seeing the way out stuff. My Lord, I'm so sick of the never-ending promenade of J-basses! None of which actually sound like a great Jazz bass, BTW.Definitely a Savoy Truffle thread if there ever was one.

Went to my first long overdue NAMM today. It certainly was an experience....you could literally count the ex-Whitesnake bass players there 
. I work in media for a sports league so BS'ed my way into a Media pass.
Lots of my favorite 80s/90s rock guys in attendance (Steve Vai, Rudy Sarzo, Dave Ellefson, etc) and tried a few basses. Really low number of fretlesses there which was disappointing and lots of terrible setups on most of the instruments in the bigger booths. Didn't come home with a whole lotta GAS, it just made me appreciate my humble parts Jazz even more.
Had a nice conversation about an amazing London show I went to with Nate from Converge which was the highlight of my day. Gear-wise the Tech 21 VT amp was probably one for my purchase list.

I took a leap of faith and ordered the SRH505F (fretless, right) though it may not arrive until March. I'm afraid that in this photo it does not appear to have fret lines, yet on their website it does.
Any chance you could try one out and report?
Didn't try one of these out today but can confirm there was no fretlines on the models they had at the booth.

I don't know... I haven't seen it in person, but it looks like either very dark or matching fret lines to me. It's clearer on the website pics, but on this pic, you can see some sort of groove or something where the frets would be, particularly in the lower "frets".
BTW, it appears that the dots that are on the face of the fingerboard are in between the "frets". That's an odd design choice for a factory fretless... Though the side dots are where they should be, where the frets would be.
